Porsche 918 Spyder and Porsche Carrera GT in Mayfair, London

The two most iconic  Porsche cars of the century are the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Carrera GT. They are of the same place and of the same time. They are both second-hand and can be found at the Mayfair Porsche dealer. You might think – what is special about this? It is extremely rare to spot a Carrera GT nowadays and even if you do spot one, it is extremely rare to spot 918 Spyder next to it.

However, things are a bit different in Mayfair, London and you see these two iconic cars side by side in the same place.

The limited run of the Carrera GT was introduced in 2002. At the same time, Mercedes-McLaren introduced the SLR, Ferrari introduced the Enzo, and Ford introduced the Ford GT. Years have passed and these cars have become a memory of the past. As they were produced in very limited quantities, it is literally very hard to spot them. However, the Carrera GT has something extra-special. When they were introduced, Ferrari and Mercedes-McLaren ignored the use of manual gearboxes, and Porsche decided to turn the manual gearbox experience into a horror movie. The ceramic clutch was designed to cope with the engine’s massive torque. Therefore, it is extremely hard to get started in the case of the Carrera GT. When you try to drive as you would with a normal manual, you stall the engine. The ceramic clutch was coupled with an auto-throttle system. So you should not apply the throttle until the car starts to roll. Therefore, the Carrera GT will be unique forever.

What about the 918 Spyder? Just one word. Emissions! The Porsche 918 Spyder only emits 70 co2/km. How is this possible? It is not the #dieselgate. It is the electric motor that does the trick. This time Porsche decided to improve the driving experience and introduced an all-wheel drive hyper car with a hybrid system. The result is the 918 Spyder, with a super low co2 emission level, and the only all-wheel drive hyper car. The rear wheels are connected to the V8 engine with an electric motor, and the front wheels are connected to a second electric motor. When the car doesn’t need the the front electric motor, it is de-clutched by the computer. Basically, Porsche has turned a hyper car into a daily car.

So, each of these cars has very unique characteristics that differentiate them from their competitors. They might be not the fastest cars, but they are certainly the most innovative.
