BMW 3 Gran Turismo vs 4 Gran Coupe

When Apple decided to reveal the iPad in 2010, BMW decided to offer something unique, too. The result was the BMW 5GT. However, unlike the iPad, the BMW 5 GT didn’t sell well, and also it was based on the 7-Series despite its 5-Series badge.

However, BMW continued to focus on the Gran Turismo concept and extended this to the 3-Series. Basically, it developed the 3-Series sedan model into a four-door coupé. With a coupé style roof, smaller rear doors and frameless door windows the 3-Series Gran Turismo was designed for people who really wanted a coupé, but did not want the coupé-style drive train or were influenced by a coupé’s space restrictions.

Although I didn’t really appreciate this approach, I liked the idea. There are many families who would like to have a coupé, but need space, and they can’t afford to buy a Maserati Quattroporte. Thus, the BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo makes sense.

What about the 4-Series Gran Coupé? For those people who can’t have a coupé due to its space restrictions, but still wish to own a coupé? And those who would like to have a four-door with a sporty drive train? That’s where the problem starts. The 4-Series Gran Coupé is a car that is not supposed to be there. I know the 3 Gran Turismo is not a proper coupé, and it is between a sedan and a real estate, but it still has the coupé touches. It still overlaps with the 4-Series Gran Coupé.

These two cars are eating their own market. I know the 4-Series will have a sportier character and the 3-Series will be more comfort focused. However, the differences between these two cars are so small that it is extremely difficult to differentiate them for an average customer. And I am sure, people will go for the 4-Series Gran Coupé, because it is a 4-Series and choose the 3-Series Gran Turismo because it is 3-Series. Ultimately, the 3-Series Gran Turismo and the 4-Series Gran Coupé will take each other’s market share, and probably, one of the cars will disappear.

Grey is a BMW 4-Series Gran Coupé. Blue is a 3-Series Gran Turismo.

New BMW 435i M Sport

BMW 435i M Sport, today I had chance to see the new BMW 4-Coupe at Parklane, London dealer. And it is amazing, it looks way better than BMW 3-Series. The interior is really well made and easily competes with Audi. Everything and know feel solid and you can feel the quality. It is really clear that BMW closed the gap with the Audi and probably up coming new model will more competitive in terms of interior build quality.

BMW 435i is a 3-lt turbo petrol engine with 306 HP and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with 8-speed automatic and only needs 5.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h, as usual :)

Worth to buy? Definitely Yes!

New BMW 4-Series Convertible

New BMW 4-Series convertible or cabrio, whichever you call it. BMW recently revealed the photos of this new 4-Series! 4-Series cabrio offer hardtop like the previous model, the interior is the same with 3-Series, you have all safety systems and connected drive features. Here are the same of the safety and other features of 4-Series: the full-colour BMW Head-Up Display, the Driving Assistant, which warns the driver of a potential collision with a pedestrian, the intelligent, glare-free LED High Beam Assistant, Active Protection with Attentiveness Assistant and the latest development stage of the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function.
Anyway, would I buy a BMW 4-Series cabrio? Yes, I would because the competitors are outdated. The Audi A5 is end of its product life cycle, so don’t expect anything exciting from A5. Mercedes E-Cabrio was boring since the beginning and you have to be 60+ to enjoy it. I really don’t know why. The other alternatives? No one is bothered with them.
New 4-Series cabrio will be also offer four-wheel drive system xDrive. The engines are 428i, 2-lt petrol 245 HP and 350 Nm of torque. 435i with 3-lt petrol engine with 300 HP and 400 Nm of torque. Keep in mind BMW M3 in 2000 had 326 HP! And your favourite 420d is powered by a 2-lt diesel engine with 184 HP and 380 Nm. Welcome to new world of cabrio cars, diesel!
I am not against diesel but I am missing the good old days, when the petrol price was just $20 and petrol engines were cheap too run. Diesel is efficient and fast but still it was nice feeling to have a petrol engine.

BMW 435i Test by Chris Harris

BMW 435i coupe tested by Chris Harris. BMW was talking about placing the coupe models under even numbers for nearly a decade, it is not a surprise to me. BMW mentioned that, coupe models will be branded with even and sedan models will be branded odd numbers. This enables to differentiate the coupe models more easily and increase the competition, in other words, Mercedes E-Coupe will have a 4-Series instead of 3-Coupe. However, this branding is becoming more complicated but I appreciated BMW’s 4-Series decision.
I agree with Chris Harris, 4-Series’s interior is the same as the 3-Series, nothing really special but Ferrari does the same for their whole range of cars. It is extremely expensive to produce individual interiors for each model. That era is finished, unfortunately due to increasing costs and tougher competition forces car manufacturers to manufacture similar cars. Every car brand does this, so don’t start complaining to me. If you don’t share part in this world, you will be bankrupted!
Chris is right with the numbers, 435i less torque than 1M but, it is 1-Series vs 4-Series. 1-Series coupe looks outdated, whatever horsepower BMW puts inside the 1-Series, I will never like it. And performance is not everything, in my opinion fuel efficiency and daily usability is more important. We never utilise the whole potential of any car, so the important thing how drivable is the car. And my opinion, BMW offers the best (in its class) steering wheel, brake pedal feelings and perfect weight distribution is a mass produced car. And also, the 4-Series is a simple and elegant car. 4-Series is not a car for posing, especially you can have a 435i and go around everywhere and no one will look at you :)
I would definitely buy a 4-Series, even though I can find some annoying bits inside the cabin. Until Audi introduces the new A5, 4-Series is the king.
I think I could never be a car journalist :) No one really bothers with the gaps inside the panel.
BMW 435i is powered by a 3-lt turbo petrol engine with 306 HP and 400 Nm of torque. It is coupled with ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox. The top speed is 250 km/h as usual and only needs 5.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h.

BMW 4-Series Coupe

BMW 4-Series Coupe is revealed. From now on, BMW 3-Coupe is gone forever. BMW decided to rebrand the coupe and cabrio models. Instead of sharing the same brand with the four-door sedan, the coupe and cabrio models are branded with even numbers. That’s why, we see 4-Series Coupe. Actually, this is not something new. BMW announced this branding strategy nearly ten years ago, however it took quite long time to put into practice.
Anyway, BMW 4-Series is based on the 3-Series with more sportive driving character. And also offers more aerodynamic design philosophy, which is already presented on the new BMW X5; Air Curtain and Air Breathers. With the help of these technologies, BMW 4-Series manages to reduce the aerodynamic drag force to 0.26! Moreover, Proactive Driving Assistant advises drivers based on the navigation data for the best moment to reduce the throttle while approaching to corners or speed limits. Hence, this improves the consumption figures. Also, ECO PRO mode decouples the 8-speed automatic gearbox while coasting to reduce engine braking and enables to reduce fuel consumption.
Lastly, BMW 428i is powered by a 2-lt petrol engine with 245 HP and 350 Nm of torque. 5.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h. BMW 435i is powered by a 3-lt petrol engine with 306 HP and 380 Nm of torque and 5.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h and as usual 250 km/h top speed. And 420d is 2-lt diesel with 184 HP with 380 Nm of torque. 7.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h with the top speed of 232 km/h. All engines are available with 8-speed automatic gearbox and xDrive all-wheel drive is available across the engine range.
BMW 4-Series Coupe is the second best alternative after the 6-Series! Also, BMW offers very high quality interior to compete with the perfection of the Audi!

New BMW X4

BMW X4 photos were released a few days ago. X4 is the small version of BMW X6. X represents the four-wheel drive SUV design and 4 represents the coupe! X4 is not coupe but the even numbers now associated with the cars that have sportive character. From now on, BMW 4-Series Coupe will replace 3-Series Coupe and X4 is the SUV interpretation of the 4-Series Coupe. Sounds complicated but look sexy!
BMW X4 engine options are expected to be similar with the engine option from the 3-Series. And X4 also features new design items from the 4-Series Coupe. There are no photos of X4’s interior but I do expect to something similar to interior of 4-Series Coupe.

New BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept (F32): The New 3-Coupe (All Official Photos) 1

-Update-

BMW just released the official photos of the BMW 4-Series and I immediately updated the posts. As you can see from the photos, the details in interior of BMW 4-Series is amazing. I have never seen something like this before, especially on this segment.
Usually, cars in this segment are not well-known for luxury in details but 4-Series changed the rule of the book. This improved luxury touches may increase the price, despite this adverse effect BMW introduced a new benchmark for interior quality. I am really looking forward to see the response of Mercedes and BMW!
-Update-

BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept (F32) photos leaked to the press. BMW 4-Series is going to replace the 3-Series coupe version. The main aim of BMW is to name the coupe models with even numbers and sedan models with odd numbers. I assume it will be easier for BMW people to identify their cars on their warehouse :)

BMW 4-Series has the similar exterior lines with the BMW 6-Series. From one point of view, I can say that 4-Series is the small version of the 6-Series. You can easily notice the similar lines inside the BMW 4-Series as well. With the 4-Series, BMW raises the production quality of the interior materials and create a new benchmark in the segment.
What about Audi A5 and Mercedes E-Coupe. I am really sad to say that, after BMW 4-Series, Audi and Mercedes cannot keep up their sales figure. The design of BMW 4-Series is the definitely the best when you compare with Audi A5 and Mercedes E-Coupe. You can notice this from the conversations on social media. In addition, Audi A5 and Mercedes E-Coupe is relatively older than the 4-Series, this is another fact that BMW 4-Series will have a stronger sales figure.
As I am a great fan of BMW 6-Series, this new 4-Series changed my mind! The strong lines and high quality finishes of the 4-Series can replace the 6-Series for me!
Most probably, BMW 4-Series will carry the same engine options that are present with the existing BMW 3-Series sedan and there will be all-wheel drive xDrive version as well.
