I Tried to Love the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R is a proper McLaren and Porsche competitor, but I would never fancy one. This is because it is a Mercedes-Benz and I would never ever buy a Mercedes-Benz over a Porsche 911! Despite this fact, Mercedes-Benz is doing really well with the AMG GT and recently introduced the AMG GT R to reduce the monotony of the AMG GT’s design.

To be fair, I like the design of the AMG GT R. It looks really appealing and is probably marvellous to drive. However, when I think about a Porsche 911, it stops my day dreaming.

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R is a great car. I would never ever complain about its performance, but it lacks the emotional bond. On the other hand, the Porsche 911 has been an icon for more than a half century. It is really hard to convince the Porsche 911 lovers to love a Mercedes-Benz.

The New Mercedes-Benz E43 AMG 4MATIC

Mercedes-Benz just revealed the new E43 AMG 4MATIC. I know, we were expecting to see the E63 AMG instead of the 43. However, Mercedes-Benz decided to offer under powered AMGs to the market. Such as Audi S6! Probably, they are planning to capture a new market! Here is the details from the press release.

“Hot on the heels of the world premiere for the new Mercedes‑Benz E-Class, its first high-performance variant is on the way from Mercedes-AMG. The E 43 4MATIC with the 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine on board will represent the most powerful variant of the executive saloon when it is introduced in September 2016. With two new turbochargers and corresponding software applications, the supercharged six-cylinder engine delivers an output of 295 kW (401 hp). As ever, the standard-specification AMG Performance 4MATIC four-wheel drive combines optimum traction with high agility on the E 43, thanks to rear-biased torque distribution with a front-to-rear ratio of 31:69 percent. The 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with shorter shift times, the retuned sports suspension based on the AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension and the more direct steering ratio also provide for signature AMG Driving Performance.”

Technical details are;

“Engine, V6 biturbo, 2996 cc. Output is 295 kW (401 hp) at 6100 rpm. Peak torque is 520 Nm at 2500-5000 rpm. Fuel consumption, combined 8.3 l/100 km. And CO2 emissions, combined 189 g/km. Kerb weight 1765 kg. The acceleration to 0-100 km/h is 4.6 s. The top speed is limited to the250 km/h.”

Mercedes-Benz C 43 AMG 4MATIC Coupe

Mercedes-Benz just revealed its C43 AMG 4MATIC Coupe prior to the Geneva Motor Show. I am not a fan of AMG cars but Mercedes-Benz developed a car that has captured my attention. Why? It is a 4MATIC coupe and an AMG. Usually, AMG cars are rear-wheel drive and struggle to transfer power from the engine to the rear-wheels! However, 4MATIC enables the engine to transfer power to all four wheels and avoid any traction loss! This means one thing, very rapid acceleration and handling inside the corners!

Wait a second what happened to the C63 AMG? C 43 is a rival of the BMW M235i and Audi S3? Note: The last C43 was released in the year 2000!

Here are some of the highlights!

  • 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo engine with modified engine control unit, increased boost pressure and far higher dynamics and high-revving
  • 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with double-declutching function when shifting down and exhilaratingly short response times in “Sport Plus” mode
  • AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive with rear-biased torque distribution of 31 to 69 percent (front axle to rear axle)
  • AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with adaptive variable damping in three stages, mode can be selected via button, adopted from Mercedes‑AMG C 63
  • AMG DYNAMIC SELECT switch for dynamic, individually selectable driving experience with five drive modes and AMG-specific parameterisation
  • Three-stage Electronic Stability Program ESP®
  • Front axle with newly developed steering knuckles and load-bearing joints on the spring link.
  • Elastokinematic adjustments to the links have been adopted from the Mercedes-AMG C 63
  • Rear axle with elastokinematics tailored to higher driving dynamics
  • Large braking system with internally ventilated compound brake discs, perforated at the front with a diameter of 360 mm, and with a diameter of 320 mm at the rear
  • AMG styling with distinctive front and rear apron as well as special exhaust tailpipes
  • Diamond radiator grille with chrome-plated pins and louvre in high-gloss black
  • 18″ AMG light-alloy wheels in 5-spoke design, painted high-gloss black with a high-sheen finish
  • AMG instrument cluster with chequered flag design with 280 km/h scale and AMG main menu
  • Multifunction sports steering wheel in leather with deep embossing in grip area, flattened bottom section, with red contrasting topstitching
  • Upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather / DINAMICA microfibre in black with sports seat upholstery layout and red topstitching

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG at Scrap Yard

I will keep it short this time! In US, a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG owner decided to get rid of the car. Personally, I never liked the SLS AMG, so I don’t feel bad or sorry (But many you does, I know). However, this does not change the catastrophe of  crushing a SLS AMG in a scrap yard. There is no clear explanation why the car ended up at scrap yard.

Mercedes S65 AMG Coupe (Used to be CL65 AMG)

An exciting news from Mercedes, S65 AMG Coupe (Used to be CL65 AMG) is revealed. Why important? There is one reason,  S65 AMG Coupe is the only S-Coupe that features the Road Surface Scan with Magic Body Control technology. This technology scans the road and adjusts the suspensions before you hit any pothole or speeding bumps.
Unfortunately, Road Surface Scan with Magic Body Control cannot be ordered with 4MATIC (all-wheel drive) system due to its settlement at the front axle. Magic Body Control is an extension of ABC (Active Body Control) system that adjusts the pressure of hydraulic fluid inside the suspension to improve the ride. However, the 4MATIC does not provide enough room accommodate this technology for ages.
If you are excited with S65 AMG Coupe, Road Surface Scan is the only nice thing. The rest is the same, heavy V12 engine with a heavy transmission, lack of traction to deliver the power and unbalanced weight distribution.
Despite these problems, Road Surface Scan is a ground-breaking technology. And still rear-end of the S-Coupe still looks like a Renault Laguna Coupe!
Specs of S65 AMG Coupe: V12 6-lt twin turbo petrol engine with 630 HP and 1000 Nm of torque. Engine is coupled with AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The top speed is limited to 300 km/h for US and 250 km/h for EU. 4.1 seconds is necessary to reach 100 km/h.

The New Mercedes S63 Coupe 4MATIC AMG

Mercedes S63 Coupe AMG and 4MATIC models were revealed last week or week before or before that. Anyway, I was too lazy to cover this story. Because, I find it boring! Mercedes S63 Coupe AMG means literally, nothing to me. Another Mercedes with lots of hormones! However, it is an exciting topic and I need to cover it. (This car used to be called, CL 63 AMG 4MATIC.)

Anyway, S63 Coupe AMG is available with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options. If you are planning to do burn-out or show off to your friends go buy a rear-wheel drive. If you are planning to utilise the all engine power, go buy an all-wheel drive 4MATIC model.

You will have the same toys and gadgets on this AMG but if you order with 4MATIC, you cannot have the Magic Body Control, because the front differential consumers too much space and active body control system cannot be placed with 4MATIC models and it has been for ages like that.

Mercedes S63 Coupe AMG is powered by a 5.5-lt bi-tubo V8 with 585 HP and 900 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with AMGSPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed automatic gearbox. Rear-wheel drive needs only 4.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h and 4MATIC all-wheel drive needs only 3.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h. Both models have limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo: Virtual Reality | Download on December 6

Virtual reality; Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo is finally revealed on Gran Turismo 6 game recently. This virtual Mercedes is powered by an AMG V8 with 577 HP with 799 Nm of torque. And it is only 1.3-tonne with AMG’s high performance carbon brakes! And AMG Vision Gran Turismo will be available to download on December, 6!

As you realized this is a virtual car, there is no real car travelling on this planet. This is a very bold example of the influential role of digital world and how it influences the decision made in real world.

Gran Turismo is the most realistic car simulation game with a unique mathematical algorithm to allow users to experience the real driving conditions of the each individual vehicle on the car. That’s why many car manufacturer works with Gran Turismo!

And if Mercedes puts AMG Vision Gran Turismo into production without any changes, I promise I will stop moaning for Mercedes.

Lastly, AMG Vision Gran Turismo resemble with Bugatti Veyron from the rear, check the wheel arches. And from the top it resembles with Morgan AeroSports.

New Mercedes S65 AMG Again?

New Mercedes S65 AMG is available to buy but don’t buy it. Yes, we were waiting the state-of-art S65 AMG for very long time. Really? Why do you need to buy a Mercedes S65 AMG? Oversized engine, out of control traction and too much power. S65 AMG is powered by a V12 petrol engine with 630 HP and 1000 Nm of torque. All the power is delivered through 7-speed automatic gearbox to rear wheels and you would never be able to utilise the 1000 Nm effectively ever.

I know Ferrari offers 700 HP a V12 petrol engine but Ferrari does not make cars as heavy as a castle. Mercedes S-Class is not a car to be remembered as light, and therefore excess amount of power on rear wheels will only let you to burn the tyres. And all these power is limited 250 km/h. Oh come on! You buy a Mercedes S65 AMG and have the same top speed of Mercedes A45 AMG!

New S-Class is an amazing car, S63 AMG is amazing car. S63 AMG can be ordered by 4MATIC, all wheel drive system. But what is the point of buying S65 AMG? I know it is for V12 market! But a Bentley client will not jump to S65 AMG, because it has twelve cylinders. S65 AMG has everything except a soul, that’s why we all criticise the car all the time.

Mercedes New S-Class vs. Bentley Flying Spur

Mercedes S63 AMG 4MATIC vs. Bentley Flying Spur. The ultimate comparison! Personally, I don’t fancy that much to write about comparing two different cars. I did some but didn’t really like the concept that much. Because, there is no fun and passion whilst comparing two cars. However, the new Mercedes S63 AMG 4MATIC and new Bentley Flying Spur ignite some passion.

Mercedes S63 AMG 4MATIC is the AMG version of the new S-Class with four-wheel drive system branded as 4MATIC. Literally, S63 AMG 4MATIC will be able to go through snow covered roads during the winter and I am sure it will be so much fun to four-wheel drive S63 AMG. However, at the end of the day that’s a Mercedes S-Class. Basically, the most common and least passionate large luxury sedan. However, this engineering dullness hinders the state-of-art technologies! New S-Class, including the S63 AMG, is capable of driving by itself the only thing prevents for doing this is the regulations. And also, new S-Class can detect cross traffic, people jumping to street, cyclist, also potential rear-end crash, front end crash, cross wind. And if you are lazy to press brake, the new S-Class stops itself in many conditions to prevent an accident to occur. In addition, the digital cameras scan the road condition and adjust the suspension to eliminate any imperfection on the road and you feel nothing inside the cabin. Rear seats can turn into partial beds and offers hot stone massage around the four seats. And also new S-Class offers wide range of engine to capture a huge market share and that’ s a very good decision and I always support it. However, this business model destroys the exclusiveness of a Bentley.

Mercedes S63 AMG 4MATIC is powered by 5.5-lt V8 with 585 HP and 900 Nm of torque. 7-speed automatic transmission is offered but it will be replaced by a 9-speed automatic soon. Only needs 4 seconds to reach 100 km/h and the top speed is limited to 250 km/h.

Bentley Flying Spur is the four-door version of Continental GT but it is brand new car. Unlike new S-Class, Flying Spur is unseen when it is parked in the middle of the road. Because, the lines of Flying Spur reflects the peace inside the cabin. Flying Spur is car that harmonised the British craftsmanship with German engineering. The result is state-of-art comfort during the travel, extremely precise interior. Every bit inside the cabin is beautifully designed and crafted. Unlike new S-Class, you will not see any relatively low quality plastic! Flying Spur’s interior is like an iPhone, everything fits perfectly with each other. Engineering part gives the best of the W12 and four-wheel drive system. However, Bentley Flying Spur cannot detect cross traffic or pre-sense rear-end crash. These technologies are exclusive to Mercedes, if you want to have a car that has more safety systems than an airplane, go for the S-Class. But if you wish to travel in comfort, elegance and exclusivity always go for Bentley. Flying Spur offers seat ventilation, heating, massage and other things as standard. The option list is the interesting colour that you wish your Flying Spur to be painted.

Bentley Flying Spur is powered by a 6-lt W12 engine with 625 HP with 800 Nm of torque. And coupled with 8-speed automatic gearbox. Only 4.3 seconds to reach 100 km/h and 320 km/h is the top speed.

My personal opinion, Bentley Flying Spur is the better choice for long journey and moving away from the S-Class community. However, when you move away from the S-Class, you move away from the state-of-art safety systems. But you will end up with plastic interior parts, which destroys the harmony.

The Future of Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz

The future of Aston Martin after Mercedes-Benz AMG. Many people may not have heard the recent business deal with the Mercedes-Benz AMG and the Aston Martin. The news is Mercedes-Benz AMG made business agreement with Aston Martin to provide electronics, telematics systems, engines and other things.

I mentioned about this future marriage in my blog couple of weeks ago. And it is not a surprise at all, there was rumour of Mercedes and Aston Martin business deal for nearly half a decade and now they finalise it.

Why Aston Martin needs +Mercedes-Benz? Very simple! +Aston Martin does not have enough cash to improve their cars and offer new technology and comfort features. You can easily understand this from the technological features of any Aston Martin, they are old! Aston Martin cannot offer seat ventilation, radar guided cruise control, pre-crash technology, seat massage, and new engines. However, Aston Martin offers the most authentic brand in automotive industry.

On the other hand Mercedes can offer any type of technology you can imagine or you cannot even imagine. However, the problem with Mercedes, their craftsmanship is not as close as to Aston Martin, their design is a bit boring, and Mercedes is not cool at all. When you add all these issues together and the sum is, Mercedes cannot offer a competitive vehicle for Bentley and Rolls Royce. And Maybach brand was failed really badly. So, Mercedes needs a British brand to find a place at the ultra luxury segment and this can be achieved only by engaging with Aston Martin.

In future, Mercedes may buy the whole Aston Martin and it can be placed under the Daimler AG! And after that, we will see cars that never existed before. Can you imagine the Aston Martin Rapide with the new Mercedes S-Class technologies! I mean that would be fantastic, you have all the technology you need in a car and it is packed with a state-of-art craftsmanship with a way better design.

Don’t be shocked if Mercedes buy the whole Aston Martin and that’s not a bad idea either.
