Mercedes CLA from Istanbul for #PinItForwardUK

Mercedes CLA, the tiny CLS! I know this does not sound fair but CLA is the smaller size version of the legendary CLS. Despite this resemblance, CLA did manage to create its own group of fans!

CLA is based on the new Mercedes A-Class, they share the same platform. Therefore, CLA is a front-wheel drive car. Unlike the CLS, you will experience relatively more under steer than you expected in a Mercedes. My personal opinion with front-wheel drive is not associated with sympathetic thoughts. But we cannot forget the manufacturing cost of rear-wheel drive and its hunger for fuel for smaller size engines. When you add these items into equation  front-wheel drive is a plausible solution, which I really don’t appreciate that much.

Never mind, you won’t be disappointed with the CLA. It does look way different than the A-Class, there is no true competitor of CLA and you will be quite unique. And CLA is relatively lowered priced than the CLS!

Here some photos from Mercedes-Benz Turkey, during the Istanbul Fashion Show! This post is for #PinItForwardUK

Mercedes with Illuminated Star: Really Necessary?

Mercedes with illuminated central grill star. Mercedes recently started to offer illuminated star with M, GL, C, CLS and E-Class models. Unfortunately, this feature is not available with A, B and GLK-Class models. Basically, if you are wealthy, you can blind your star.
Actually, I was planning to write something funny about this feature but I changed my mind. Because, I was trying to understand why Mercedes offers a feature, which is mainly aimed for posing. I am sure illuminated star is a part of the design element but customers will not perceive in the same way. Therefore, identify of the feature will not match with the image.
Does Mercedes need brand awareness? I really don’t think so, everyone on this planet knows Mercedes. There is always a Mercedes in everywhere on this planet, so the three-point star does not have any problem with brand awareness. So, why people should need to represent their Mercedes even at night? Actually, is it necessary to do? Even at night, we can understand a Mercedes very easily, it is not like Pagani only few people know the brand name.
I know after this post some people will say, there are brands doing this as well. But Mercedes is a cult, an icon. It is associated with wealth and success. Yes, other brands also mean this but no one can emphasise like Mercedes.
My opinion instead of getting this feature, go for Distronis Plus system. It will save your life and more functional then illuminated star.

New BMW M6 Gran Coupe (All Photos)

BMW M6 Gran Coupe is here! The best looking four-door coupe has the most powerful engine! Main features of the M6 Gran Coupe is the same as the normal models, however there are some nice things with M6!
BMW M6 Gran Coupe is powered by a 4.4-lt V8 petrol engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and produces 560 HP with 680 Nm of torque. Thanks to this very powerful engine, M6 Gran Coupe needs only 4.6 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph). However, BMW is always pessimist with their acceleration results, therefore it might be faster than 4.6 seconds. And the top speed is limited to 250 km/h or with optional M Driver’s Package 300 km/h. Engine is coupled with seven-speed M Double Clutch automatic transmission with pedal shifts.
Standard driving stability systems are: DSC incl. ABS, ASC and MDM (M Dynamic Mode), CBC (Cornering Brake Control), DBC (Dynamic Brake Control), Dry Braking function, Start-Off Assistant, M Dynamic Damper Control, Active M Differential, linked to ICM (Integrated Chassis Management).
Standard safety systems are: Airbags for driver and front passenger, side airbags for driver and front passenger, head airbags for front and rear seats, three-point inertia-reel seatbelts on all seats with integrated belt latch tensioner and belt force limiter at the front, crash-activated head restraints at the front, crash sensors, Tyre Defect Indicator.
Optional safety systems are: High Beam Assistant, Park Distance Control, rear-view camera, Surround View incl. Top View and Side View, BMW Night Vision with pedestrian recognition, Head-Up Display, Lane Change Warning, Lane Departure Warning incl Collision Warning, Speed Limit Info with No Passing Info, Advanced eCall.
Optional comfort features are: BMW Assist incl. Enquiry Service, remote-control functions, Real Time Traffic Information, BMW TeleServices, integration of mobile devices.
Optional entertainment features are: Internet access, BMW Online incl. Park Info, National Info, Google Local Search, News, Realtime Weather, BMW Routes, Office functions, Bluetooth Audio Streaming, Online Update Music Tracks, Apps.
In my opinion, BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe is the best-looking four-door coupe on market. And with the M6 model, it is way better now. I know 6-Series Gran Coupe is way more expensive than Mercedes CLS and Audi A7, but it does worth it! And the interior quality of 6-Series is beyond the benchmark of BMW!

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake: Coupe Estate

Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake is now revealed to press. CLS Shooting Brake is a coupe looking estate car, this does sound a bit unusual but welcome to new world! There are three engine option and impressive high quality interior. My suggestion for CLS Shooting Brake, with this high quality in details will attract new customers who previous do not wish to own an estate car.

CLS Shooting Brake is packed with technology, luxury as usual. Actually, Shooting Brake is a luxury a estate car. Mercedes E-Class do offer estate but E-Class does not offer the same level of luxury like CLS. Now, we have the CLS Shooting Brake.
CLS Shooting Brake offers; electric steering wheel, LED headlights, active park assist, distronic plus, bas plus and other safety systems that are currently available with CLS sedan.

The best bit of CLS Shooting Brake is the wooden luggage compartment floor that creates an outstanding ambience. And I hope it is scratch resistant and not optional :)

Interview with Rob Halloway (Mercedes-Benz UK)

Today’s interview is with Rob Halloway, PR Manager of Mercedes-Benz UK. He is the person responsible for the passenger and commercial vehicles, and one of the most active Twitter users from the automotive industry. We know each other through the Twitter and the MIPAA.
From the beginning, Mercedes-Benz did a great hospitality for me. They picked me up from the train station with a Mercedes C350 Coupe. It was a fully loaded vehicle with everything, radar guided cruise control, blind spot system, traffic sign recognition, and ventilated seats! Five-star transportation.
Mercedes-Benz HQ is always amazing place for someone, who likes cars. They have many different types of vehicles in one place, from trucks to AMG high performance vehicles. Actually, my best piece was Lego Unimog that has more than one thousand parts and takes around at least six hours to build it!
With Rob, we talked about the new Mercedes vehicles. In 2011 and 2012 Mercedes revealed many new vehicles; SLK, CLS, SL, M-Class, B-Class and Actros truck. He summarised each vehicles’ unique feature and explained the new crash prevention system in B-Class.
In addition, we talked about the social media, its role in automotive industry and whom should manage it!
And, his journey with the Actros truck for a camping trip! And you will see what he drive at work ;)

Again, thank you very much to all Mercedes-Benz team for their great hospitality :)

The Actros camping post is here!

Mercedes-Benz Steering Wheels are the same!

Interesting coincident with Mercedes models. When you take a closer look to new Mercedes models, you will see one thing in common, the steering wheel. I know it does not sound that important but, Mercedes offers the same steering wheel on these models; B, C (Sedan, Estate, Coupe), E (Sedan, Estate, Coupe, Cabrio), CLS and SLK
The important point is, regardless of the model and the price tag. The steer wheel looks the same, in terms of design and quality. And this is not something really nice to see, when you buy an expensive Mercedes!
Why they do it? In order to save costs, because nobody will ever change decision to purchase a competitor because of the steer wheel. And this save money for Mercedes and sustains the same sales figures ;)

Estate Mercedes CLS :/

Mercedes decided to reveal the estate CLS. It was introduced as a concept car (CLS Shooting Brake), but I never thought they will put into production. Estate CLS will be the most senseless car on the market, does not offer something different except a huge boot space. Also it looks a bit ugly!
Like BMW 5GT, Mercedes R-Class; this new car will be another fail that will be remembered in the future. Estate CLS is being produced, just to produce. I don’t like to use this phrase, but I don’t see a reasonable point to own a four-door coupe estate car. Similar to R-Class, this idea seems brilliant on paper, probably will not work out in real life.
I am giving no more than %30 chance for success. Sorry!
Thank you very much to WorldCarFans for the photos!

I Drove It: Mercedes CLS 350 CDi

For the first time, I want to share my opinions on a car, which I drove recently. Usually I don’t write about test drives but sometimes it is worth to share with you. Recently, I drove the Mercedes CLS 350 CDI. CDI means diesel in Mercedes language. As usual, I was expecting a senseless driving experience with the CLS. Most of the Mercedes vehicles I drove for last five years did not give the same pleasure like BMW. I mean the sportiveness!
But this time, things have changed. CLS was not acting like a traditional conservative Mercedes, it was offering a real driving pleasure. Unlike other models, new CLS was a like a magnet. Trying to grab you more and more!
Actually, it was very agile and nimble for a Mercedes on its size. The steering wheel was not like a Porsche 911 but it was much better than many other Mercedes. Diesel engine did not have any turbo lag during the acceleration and offers a very smooth ride. Additionally, the 7g Tronic plus auto gearbox had some reluctance for kick downs but that’s acceptable (Actually many cars have this problem). Suspension was the standard steel springs, which are set to be sportive but also offer comfort. Don’t expect the BMW style suspension settings from a Mercedes.
Unfortunately, interior had some plastic bits and they annoyed me. The plastic parts of steering wheel were below the Mercedes standards but the dashboard was covered with leather. A good trade off! The CLS I drove had the Distronic Plus function. This system is a radar guided cruise control and enables the vehicle to stop and go without the driver’s interference on any pedals. Basically, you set the cruise control speed and just hold the steering wheel. The car slows down, accelerates and stops by its own. This function also offers the BAS Plus brake technology. This system detects a possible front impact and brakes the car autonomously, if the driver does not wish to brake!
Only one thing, I didn’t like! That was the ESP button. Actually, there is no existing ESP button on dashboard. Mercedes engineers decided to remove the button and place it on board computer. This made is very hard to turn off and find inside the menu labyrinth!
For me, it is the only four-door Mercedes offers fun to drive function. Worth to buy? Yes! And you must have the Distronic Plus function, it is the most entertaining function in a car, I have ever seen :) And I love Formula 1 style rear fog light
