Farewell to Ford Fiesta

Ford Fiesta is gone after 47 years and eight generations in production, as it couldn’t compete with the growing popularity of SUVs. On July 7, 2023, the last Ford Fiesta rolled off the production line in Cologne, Germany.

The decision to cease Ford Fiesta’s production was mainly driven by the need for space in the factory to accommodate the upcoming Ford Explorer electric SUV. Martin Sander, the general manager of Ford Model E Europe, confirmed this reason.

The Fiesta’s production plant will be transformed into a fully battery-electric plant, a move that aligns with Ford’s strategy to focus on electric vehicles due to the declining sales of the Fiesta. Despite being in production since 1976 and holding the top-selling cars position in the UK from 2009 until 2023 (it even topped the list for the first five months of 2023), the Fiesta struggled to maintain its market share. The Ford Puma, on the other hand, gained more attention and market share, contributing to the Fiesta’s decline.

In addition to the Fiesta, Ford also axed the Mondeo, S-Max, and Galaxy models, replacing them with EV models. The Ford Focus is also scheduled to be discontinued by the end of 2025, and it is likely that by the time you read this article, all Ford models will have EV versions.

There was once a Ford Fiesta Vignale model known for its high-quality leather interior and top-spec features, making it a proper luxury car. However, despite its appeal, it couldn’t survive in the market.

Overall, the Ford Fiesta will be fondly remembered for its long legacy and its once-strong position as one of the UK’s top-selling cars. Its departure marks a new chapter in Ford’s journey towards a more sustainable and electrified future.

Ford Discontinued the Fiesta

At the end of October 2022, Ford announced its decision to discontinue the Fiesta from June 2023 onward.

The Fiesta is one of the longest-standing vehicles in the industry, having been produced for 47 years. Unfortunately, the trend and addiction to driving SUVs has forced Ford to stop manufacturing the Fiesta.

This segment of Ford will be replaced by Puma’s electric version. Honestly, the Puma looks weird, and in the early 2000s, the Puma brand used to be a car based on the Ford Ka.

The original Ford Fiesta was launched in 1976, and since then more than 18 million units have been built around the world. Recently, Ford discontinued the Mondeo, Galaxy, and S-Max models. Honestly, I never liked MPVs (Galaxy and S-Max); they can be gone for good!

Anyway, I’m hoping that one day, the Fiesta will be back again. Until that time, we will miss you, Fiesta!

Does the Aston Martin DBX Look Like the Ford Kuga?

In an effort to escape their current financial quagmire, Aston Martin have officially revealed their first SUV to the world: the Aston Martin DBX. When the brand was sold away from the Ford Group, Aston Martin couldn’t quite find their feet. As a result, they have been suffering from severe financial difficulties for nearly half a decade.

One of the primary reasons for this is that their vehicles have not been on the same level as their competitors. Aston Martin cars are lightweight and powerful, but they don’t offer the sophisticated grand tourer experience as alternative vehicles. For example, there are no driving assistance technologies available with the Aston Martin vehicles. As Daimler AG owns 5% of Aston Martin, I thought we would see more Mercedes-Benz technologies inside new Aston Martin vehicles. Indeed, the gearbox, engine, and infotainment technology of the DBX are borrowed from Mercedez-Benz.

Sadly, Aston Martin are not doing well. This may lead to another company-wide financial crash unless DBX saves the company. However, the DBX entered to the market rather late. At first glance, Aston Martin’s brand identity doesn’t align well with sports utility vehicles, but SUVs make lots of money. Instead of investing in Formula 1 and other unnecessary projects, Aston Martin should have introduced the DBX years ago. This formula saved Porsche!

Although the Ford Motor Company no longer own Aston Martin, the DBX looks like it came from the same design studio as the third generation Ford Kuga. A pair of untrained eyes might not see any difference at all, as, from the outside, both cars look very similar. The Ford Kuga is much smaller than the DBX, but they look largely the same. Sadly, Ford will be taking benefit of this similarity. The subjective value of the Kuga will be increased thanks to DBX!

The Fourth Generation Ford Focus (2018)

Two days ago in East London Ford Europe launched the new Ford Focus, the fourth generation Focus. This launch is important because it is the 20th year that the Focus has been in production.

I felt sad when I realised the press launch was just next to my WeWork Spitalfields office. For a long time, I gave up on the automotive industry. I was an early blogger and couldn’t get a grip with the press officers. They couldn’t identify what I was. So, I gave up. Nowadays, there are more bloggers than journalists. However my bad experiences prevented me from attending the press launches. However, this time, I really wanted to be at that press launch.

In 1998, Ford made a serious decision and ceased the production of the Escort. In its place they created a brand new model, the Focus. The first generation Focus had a revolutionary design and state-of-the-art handling. Twenty years ago, most of the manufacturers were using torsion beam suspension, but the Focus offered with the multi-link rear suspension.

The interior quality was adequate for the time, and with regard to reliability, the Focus was the benchmark. As a result, you still see them running.

The exterior design? It was like a spaceship landed on Earth. Everyone was talking about the Focus and looking at it. If Instagram had been available in 1998, Focus would be really popular! However, the second and the third generations never managed to improve on the exterior design of the first generation Focus. They were in the shade of the iconic first generation model.

Now things have changed. We live in a connected world and people don’t buy cars anymore. Bear in mind, my first car was a 2004 Ford Focus. Now, living in London, I don’t have a motivation to own a car.

The fourth generation Focus is unique. It was launched onto the market with state-of-the-art technologies. Now, it can detect a pothole and the suspension prevents the wheel dropping into the pothole. The car then tells the rear-wheel to do the same. A similar technology is used in the Audi A8, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Also, you can now adjust the firmness of the suspension. There is 360-degree cameras, semi-autonomous driving, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, cross traffic alert, wrong way alert, inflatable seatbelts, post-collision braking, pre-collision assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection. And lastly, there is a new SYNC3 system, which is not really tempting.

Avoid the entry level Ford Focus model because it has torsion beam rear suspension to reduce the cost. The new Focus is based on a new platform called C2, and Ford decided to follow the route of the VW and introduce torsion beam. The dual-clutch gearbox has also vanished from the Focus. BMW has removed it as well! Now you can get 8-speed automatic (1-lt 123HP and 148 HP / 1.5-lt diesel 118HP and 2-lt diesel) or 6-speed manual.

Overall, the new Ford Focus looks amazing. Just replace the badge with an Audi one and people will not know the difference. I really loved the Vignale spec. It is expensive but worth it. However, I felt really sad not attending the press launch in the Focus’s 20th year.

Unicorn Ford Mustang of eBay for the London Pride

The Ford Mustang is officially a unicorn and eBay proved it for London Pride 2017! To mark the occasion, the online marketplace transformed a 1968 Ford Mustang into a “unicorn”. The mystical motor will make its debut at the London Pride Parade on Saturday before being sold with all proceeds going to LGBT charity – the Albert Kennedy Trust. The charity supports young 16-25 year olds from the LGBT community who are homeless or living in a hostile environment.

The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic cars from the 1960s. Whether you like the Mustang or not, you can deny its role in people’s lives and history. For many years, the Mustang was the reason to have a summer holiday in the US, just to experience the Mustang. I am not saying experiencing a car, it is an experience of the Mustang!

You might be thinking what is really special with the Mustang, there were many cars built in 1960s but why people were obsessed with the Mustang?

The soul, Mustang was always a unique rule breaker car. Especially when we think about the 1960s, everything in society was in constant change. People’s lifestyles, how they live, how they eat, how they perceive the world. The Mustang wasn’t a subtle car, it was loud and fast. It was part of the 1960s! It had a personality and that’s why people loved it. They have something common with the ’68 Mustang. It is more than a car. It is your friend. It is someone who can tell you the story of the 1960s!

It never had a perfect drivetrain or the most efficient engine. However, it was a living organism on four wheels.

For a long time, we didn’t have Mustangs in the UK because the steering wheel was positioned on the opposite side. However, this didn’t deter UK Mustang fans! In London especially, many people drove left-hand drive Mustangs for years. That’s why the Mustang is a perfect car to be associated with London Pride. It is a car that hinders lots of memories.

eBay’s mystical vehicle restoration took 30 days and was created from parts and accessories sourced on eBay (this means, you can find any car part on the eBay, keep in mind!).
The transformation was carried out by a skilled team of five; including mechanic and the London Organiser of Gay Classic Car Group Darren Sullivan Vince.
What has changed underneath the Mustang? They didn’t just add a unicorn horn on the bonnet! The project has involved upgrading the rear shocks and springs, installing a new radiator, hoses and water pump, fitting a new bonnet complete with a unicorn horn, customised ‘unicorn’ lettering on the boot, and wings which are made from plastazote with a steel skeleton.

What will happen next? eBay customers (probably you are one of them) will have the chance to donate at the check-out during London Pride. In addition, the sales of the unicorn vehicle will be donated to the Albert Kennedy Trust as well.

eBay has added a link called “Follow The Rainbow” on their home page. Cut and paste the following link to your browser where you can find out more about the car, the plans, the people, or make a donation to this great charity.

Ford Mustang EuroNCAP Crash Test Result. Why?

The iconic Ford Mustang was finally in Europe. Many people celebrated the official arrival of the iconic motor vehicle. Top Gear, Grand Tour and many YouTube channels celebrated the Mustang’s arrival more passionately than the landing on the Moon.

However, whilst the Ford Mustang had arrived in Europe, something had gone wrong. The crash test! Ford Mustang received only two stars from the EuroNCAP crash test. This means: try not to crash your Mustang in Europe.

However, the Ford Motor Company is not new to the European market and normally they build really safe cars. How has this happened? Very simply, the lovely Mustang was designed to pass the US crash test, not the European one! As a result, Mustang suffered very badly in the EuroNCAP test.

This may sound rather silly, but it’s the reality. The US and Europe have different types of crash tests and, therefore, a vehicle might be designed differently to pass these tests. As the US and European driving style and habits are different, it is quite usual to expect design differences. Especially for a car like the Mustang, which had never previously been marketed in Europe.

What will happen now? First, try not to crash your Mustang in Europe. Secondly, Ford has officially announced that it is revising the Mustang.

The Bridget Jones’s Baby Movie and The Ford Focus

Bridget Jones’s Baby and the Ford Focus, what is that you might be asking!

I am 35 years old, single, have been writing a blog for more than six years, and I had Bridget Jones moments in my life (such as wearing a pink shirt at a formal event). Theoretically, I am ticking the boxes for being a Bridget Jones, and more excited for the Bridget Jones Baby than for the iPhone 7. They will both revealed in September.

Before the Bridget Jones’s Baby movie, I decided to refresh my memory and watch both of the Bridget Jones’ movies and recall the days when we had flip phones, no Facebook, and we used landlines (I have no idea where my landline phone is), TV was not in HD, YouTube was had no impact on our lives and The Gherkin in London was literally the only skyscraper in London.

However, we had the legendary, the iconic and the great (I really mean it) Ford Focus. A Ford Focus Ghia hatchback appeared in the Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001 and A Ford Focus (facelifted) Trend hatchback appeared in the Bridget Jones Edge of Reason in 2004. They were both driven by Bridget Jones’s family. The interesting question is why the family chose the Ford Focus Trend (lower spec) in 2004 over the high spec Ghia model. Yes, that’s the question I really need to know. I agree, I’ve messed up the spirit of the movie.

Anyway, as the Bridget Jones movies are full of product placement, top to bottom, are we going to see another Ford Focus in the Bridget Jones Baby movie? Were Bridge Jones’s family loyal to the Ford brand? Did they decide to upgrade to an Audi, or did the Kia steal the show?

Honestly, I have no idea and will ask Ford UK PR on Twitter to help me out. However, I am definitely sure we will have to wait for the answer.

Ford GT WEC Racer at Autosport International 2016

Ford GT is back to business, we all know it and we were waiting for this. The last time we saw a Ford GT was in 2004, when the smartest phone was a Nokia! Hopefully, I will manage to spot a Ford GT at Autosport International 2016 (NEC, Birmingham). However, this Ford GT was designed for the Le Mans race and named, Ford GT WEC Racer.

I am sure many people will get upset for this comment, but honestly, the Ford GT WEC Racer makes the Formula 1 look a bit dull. This car looks amazing, fantastic.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find detailed specifications, which is quite usual with the racing series cars. It is most likely powered by a 3-lt EcoBoost V6 with 600 HP, but no details regarding the hybrid system are available at this time.

Gold Ford Transit 50 Years | CV Show 2015

The Ford Transit, is now 50 years old and to celebrate, it has been painted in gold and exhibited at the Commercial Vehicles Show (CV Show 2015) in Birmingham, England. I must point out that this isn’t real gold.

It may have been around for half a century but the Transit is still one of the most common vehicles you will spot on the road, albeit not the most glamorous. So why am I writing about it? Because this van plays a part in all our lives. Most goods, including our luxury shoes and handbags, are delivered in a Ford Transit or at least some of their parts are carried in one. Therefore, it would seem almost ungrateful to skip the Transit’s milestone birthday.

Icon

The transit is an unlikely automotive icon. I know many people will reject this notion, decrying the Transit as just a commercial vehicle, but it has been in production for half a century; that’s something you cannot ignore. During the Transit’s 50 years on the road, it has been improved to the point of being one of the most reliable vehicles on the planet; basically, a Transit will keep working until it runs out of fuel.

I‘d love to write about all the Transit models available but there are more than 12 million possible combinations! So, I would be typing for quite some time.

Next time you see a Ford Transit, remember it is probably older than you so respect your elders!

Ford Mondeo Vignale | Luxury Ford

Ford Mondeo Vignale, the latest trim level or luxury interpretation from Ford, basically a luxury Ford. It is only available for the new Mondeo at the moment but rumour has it, the Vignale line will be available with the Ford Kuga as well.

What is Vignale?

Basically, it’s a luxury trim level that actually lives up to the title. Ford has included designer touches to the interior leather work with unique patterns that resemble the front grille. Talking of the front grille, the Vignale model’s features a unique design. Additionally, the highly polished wheels create a distinct look, which I am not a fan of.

What about the engine?

As I understand it, you can only get with 2-lt diesel and petrol engines. If you are planning to buy the state-of-art 1-lt petrol engine powered Mondeo, you can’t get the Vignale. In my view that’s a mistake; the 1-lt petrol engine is an engineering piece that definitely fits the luxury Vignale vision.

Luxury Ford Products?

Yes, Vignale has designed a line of accessories as well, such as an €850 handbag. But I really wonder who is going to buy this instead of a Louis Vuitton bag!

I really like the Ford Mondeo Vignale. It offers high quality interior craftsmanship, which should have been included years before, so I hope Ford will keep Vignale for its future models. Rest assured, you will get the same driving experience with the Vignale Mondeo model, despite a lack of headroom at the rear. But this is still a great car!
