Twitter Interview with Scott Brownlee (PR Manager of Toyota GB) #toyotainterview

Today I did my first twitter interview with PR manager of Toyota GB, Scott Brownlee. I was a bit excited as it was my first live twitter interview, my previous interview always recorded and uploaded to YouTube later. However, this time what I wrote was going to be seen my hundreds of people.

During the interview with Scott Brownlee; we talked about Toyota Prius Hybrid, indestructible SUV Land Cruiser, new sports car GT86 and future of social media. Also, he reminded the rally version of Toyota Prius from year 2002.

I totally forgot, Scott mentioned why Toyota Land Cruiser is one of the best SUVs on market.

You can read the rest of the interview here or check it from twitter by #toyotainterview hashtag.
My first twitter interview is with a #mipaa member #toyotapr, you can follow the conversation with #toyotainterview hashtag

Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

Thank you very much @toyotapr for the interview #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Good afternoon. Happy to be involved. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR This is my first twitter interview and I hope it will go well #toyotainterview :))
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR Before we start, could you tell us about your background? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I studied mechanical engineering at Strathclyde University. I wanted to be a race car designer. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr After graduation I applied to just one car company and was lucky enough to get the job. It was Austin Rover in 1984 #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR It seems like you are very close to your dream. Did you ever have chance to race? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr There is joined a mysterious department called PR. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR For how long do you work for #toyota ? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Only in karts. I did get the drive the 6R4 Group B rally car. It was also driven by Senna #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR Sounds amazing! I think that’s a great chance to race with Senna’s car #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I joined Toyota GB 16 years ago this month. I came from Cosworth, BMW before that. #toyota #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr “My” car. ;-) #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr I didn’t compete in it, just drove it at a test track. No pictures, sadly. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR You had opportunity to work in different car companies. Sad to here that no photos :( #toyotainterview Now a bit #ft86
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR It seems like #Toyota is going to back rear-wheel drive segment with #ft86. Last rear-wheel drive one was Supra #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR sorry it is #gt86 #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Yes, although don’t forget the MR2. It was fun. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr The benefit of rear wheel drive is the fun you can have with the balance of the car in corners. #gt86 #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR You are definitely right #mr2 is also rear-wheel drive #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr The GT86 gets back to the basics of a good sports car. #gt86 #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr We are all excited to have a sports car again and it seems a hit with media and owners too #gt86 #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR Does it mean #toyota will reveal more sports car in future ? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I can’t talk about specific future plans, but Akio Toyoda has already said there will be more. #toyota #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR that sounds great!! #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR And my next topic is #hybrid. If there is a conversation about #Toyota, we cannot skip the hybrid #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR Correct me if I am wrong, #Toyota is the first company introduced the mass-production #hybrid cars with #Prius #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr To be fair, Honda were slight ahead with the original Insight, but Prius was a much bigger seller. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr I remember the meeting where an engineer described this new technology to us. Amazing to think millions now sold #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR Millions of #toyota #hybrid are driven. That’s a very big number and great achievement #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR especially in terms of #toyota reliability #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr We have a couple of original Prius here, one standard and one a rally car. Very proud of that project. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR I know about the #prius #hybrid #rally car. Many people may not know it. Could you tell about it a bit? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Sure. We were approached by a journalist, Nik Berg, with the idea which we thought was a good one…. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr The rally was 5000 miles from Sweden Jordan. It became the world’s first hybrid to finish an FIA sanctioned event. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR 5000 miles is a real a long journey even for a non-hybrid car! Well done to #toyota #prius #hybrid #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR Lastly and my favourite, #Toyota #LandCruiser. For me, it is the best of the best four-wheel drive #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Here’s a link to the press release isued at the time. http://bit.ly/IGarzF #prius #hybrid #rally #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR Nothing in the world runs like #Toyota #LandCruiser and they never broke down #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR Can you tell about a bit about #Toyota #LandCruiser? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Thank you. They are renowned for their go anywhere ability. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr Almost everywhere in the world apart from the UK Land Cruiser is the 4×4 of choice. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr There is an apocryphal story about a road in Australian outback which has a sign reading… #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr …”Land Cruisers Only Beyond This Point” because you breakdown out there you risk death. #Toyota #LandCruiser #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr There is funny TV commercial on a similar theme http://youtu.be/isC32ev4Lw4 #Toyota #LandCruiser #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR I guess this road sign explain everything about #toyota #landcruiser #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR And why we don’t see many #toyota #landcruiser in UK? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr In the UK we are in Land Rover’s home market so we understand it is different. #toyota #landcruiser #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr I like to think UK Land Cruiser customers buy for a purpose, not posing ;-) #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR That’s why I love #toyota #landcruiser #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR And I have noticed something with #Toyota #LandCruiser. It is the most common security vehicles for politicians #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR We always see Toyota Land Cruiser in the convoys regardless of country. Why #LandCruiser? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I think it is a sixty plus year reputation for reliability in many countries, especially Middle East and Africa #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr Combined with Hilux, our other indestructible 4×4, the Land Cruiser is very common when the going is tough #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR that explains everything about #toyota #landcruiser and #hilux #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR And #socialmedia. What do you think about the future of #socialmedia in #automotive industry? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Big! #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr The great thing about social media is interacting directly with owners and fans. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR a note, I met with you from twitter before #mipaa event #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR I totally agree with you. And this makes #socialmedia dynamic and creates its own path for #marketing and #pr #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr We have a social team here at @ToyotaGB. Our greatest advocates are our owners and potential owners… #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr ….like to “speak” to them so social is the perfect way to do it. It will only get bigger and more influential #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR that’s a great explanation of #socialmedia, bigger and bigger #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR And how @ToyotaGB perceive the bloggers? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I have to say those that I’ve met, and we try to meet up as much as possible, are great enthusiast for cars. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR That sounds great for us, #bloggers #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@ToyotaPR and lastly, what car do you drive? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I see people willing to put in time and effort to publish. As such I see a close similarity to traditional media #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR that’s exactly what we are doing #bloggers, and great to hear from a such big company #toyota #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I am very lucky. Not only do I get to drive all the Toyota and Lexus range, we borrow competitors cars too. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr This week we have something of both at once – an Aston Martin Cygnet. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@uygarr But my usual car is a Prius. I also had the tartan iQ for a while, but it has been sold now (sadly) #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR Did you like the Aston Martin Cygnet? #toyotainterview
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr I haven’t driven it yet, but I am sure I will. I imagine buying an old (i.e. afordable) Cygnet for when I retire. #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR And that’s the end of the #toyotainterview. Thank you very much for joining and apologise for any typo :)
Uygar Kilic ‏@uygarr

@uygarr Thank you!. It was fun (for us anyway). #toyotainterview
Scott Brownlee ‏@ToyotaPR

@ToyotaPR The interview will be available tonight http://www.CarAndLife.net and greetings to everyone in @ToyotaGB #toyotainterview

Finally the New Range Rover with James Bond Inspiration, my 1000th Post

New Range Rover is my 1000th post in my blog.

New Range Rover is recently revealed to public in the Royal Ballet School, Richmond Park, London. New Range Rover looks like the combination of Evoque and the present Range Rover in term of exterior, therefore I didn’t like that much. It looks good, unfortunately not ground-breaking.

(The press event of the new Range Rover reminded one thing, James Bond. Because, the new Range Rover came out from the water like Bond girls coming out form the sea. Range Rover’s product placements in James Bond movies might have influence. Dr. No: Ursula Andress, Die Another Day: Halle Berry.)

However, the technology underneath the new Range Rover increased the bar higher. The present model was not able to offer the technologies you may find in German SUVs, especially in terms of safety systems. New Range Rover now offers; Adaptive Cruise Control with Queue Assistfeature enables to complete stop and available at low speeds, Intelligent Emergency Braking (with Advanced Emergency Brake Assist) brakes the vehicle if the upcoming traffic is too close or the driver is not responding to a potential collision (This is a great function and it is enough to buy the new Range Rover), Blind Spot Monitoring, Dynamic Response active lean control, another great feature is Reverse Traffic Detection warns driver for potential collisions during reversing and this is another must have feature as the Range Rover is big and may hard to reverse for some drivers and lastly Surround Camera System with T junction view feature.
Now the interior features of the new Range Rover (Now Range Rover offers the same luxury like in Mercedes S-Class); soft door close, power upper and lower tailgates for boot, cooler compartments, electrically deployable towbar, Land Rover classic Meridian audio system, 8-inch central screen , voice control, multi-massage seats and Executive Class rear seat (Two individual seats) and LED ambient lighting. And I hope that Range Rover’s navigation screen and instrument panel’s screens are improved and faster CPU is available, so go around the menus will be faster.
And the best bit, I like is the leather covered gear knob :)
New Range Rover 310 kg lighter and features new engines. V8 Supercharged produces 510 PS and reach to 100 kph (62 mph) 5.1 seconds (0.8 faster than previous one) and %9 more efficient.  3-lt diesel engine TDV6 produces 258 PS and 4.4-lt SDV8 diesel produces 339 PS. And SDV8 is %22 more efficient than the previous model. And I hope that 4.4-lt SDV8 will not ruin the weight balance.

And price starts from £70,000 and end up at £100,000!

Finally, the Range Rover may look quite similar to previous model but it is obvious that Land Rover realised the risk of new Bentley SUV and improved the technology and interior way beyond my expectations. Now Range Rover is ready for the Bentley SUV and compete with German SUVs way better than ever.

Fresh New Land Rover Freelander 2

Land Rover Freelander, first of its kind. When it was revealed end of 1990s, it was totally a fresh new car in a fresh new segment. Literally, I always loved the first generation Freelander. Even though, the interior was a quite agricultural but the exterior design was so tempting.
The following generation of Freelander was (Freelander 2) also good but the exterior was not that tempting. It was a nice small SUV but there was not sexiness at all. After that Evoque came, Mercedes with GLK, Audi with Q5, BMW with X3.
And Land Rover Freelander 2 seemed to be a bit outdated, so a fresh version of Freelander 2 is revealed. Exterior is way better, don’t be fooled by the ugly blue press photos, go and check different colours. Now there is a new 2-lt petrol engine with 240 PS of power and 340 Nm of torque. The Terrain Response knob is replaced with button like in Land Rover vehicles. Interior quality is way better, but it is not like BMW X3’s interior. And the sound system, 875-watt Meridian sound system! A new voice system, 7-inch huge navigation screen, a new electronic hand brake that can adjust the amount of pressure according to slope of the road and rear view camera.
Facelifted Freelander 2 is really good and a big improvement from the previous one. But, it is below the market benchmark, interior quality needs to be higher with less plastic parts. However, it is still a Land Rover.

New Range Rover is Here!

New Range Rover’s photos are leaked to internet today. Like other manufacturers, Land Rover did not wish to scare the existing customers with a complete new design. So, new Range Rover is a combination of previous model and Evoque.
Range Rover Evoque did a huge success and Land Rover wants to benefit and expand this success to rest of their fleet. And also existing Range Rover still receives attention; so the best option is to combine them. I was expecting a better exterior, however interior is way way way better :)
New Range Rover’s interior reminds me the Jaguar XF’s interior. Lots of shiny wood and many dails.
Anyway, new Range Rover is way lighter than the previous one, 420 kg! This is a great success, and thanks to full aluminium body. By this way, new Range Rover is the first full aluminium SUV available on market.
New Range Rover also features, Terrain Response 2 technology. With new Terrarin Response 2, new Range Rover analyses the current driving and roads conditions, selects the most suitable settings.
Engines are; refined petrol V8, TDV6 and TDV8 diesel engines are also available.
More details will be available later on September. New Range Rover still looks one of the best SUVs on market!

New Range Rover is Spotted by TOP555 Cars

New Range Rover is here with very few camouflage. I know it is really hard to believe but today I saw these photos in TOP555 Performance Cars’ Twitter account. They managed to take picture of the new Range Rover. And it looks quite similar to computer aided models, New Range Rover has a similar to radiator grill to Land Rover Freelander and some similar design bits from the Range Rover Evoque.

However, new Range Rover did not receive a major design change from the present model. I assume that, Land Rover does not wish to lose their present customers by a very different design.

Again thanks to TOP555 Performance Cars! You may follow them from twitter as well. https://twitter.com/TOP555Cars

Goodwood Festival of Speed: Land Rover Discovery 1.000.000 th

Land Rover Discovery’s 1.000.000 th model travelled from Biringham, UK to Beijing, China in 50 days by covering 12.800 KM (8000 MLS). And that Discovery 4 was in Goodwood Festival of Speed, with the dust as well. The Discovery 4 did not have the memory seats, it would be a bit uncomfortable not to have this function for a long journey. However, interior was perfectly clean despite 12.800 KM!

Goodwood Festival of Speed: Land Rover Discovery 4

Land Rover has the most creative stand in the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The production line was a great idea to see the different parts of the Land Rover Discovery 4.
Honestly, I never seen the chassis and drive train of Discovery 4 that close. Actually, Discovery 4 has a serious, a proper chassis that you cannot find in nowadays. Because, most of the vehicles manufactures on monocoque technology. So, they are a bit like Lego. When you dissemble there is nothing and when you assemble, you have the vehicle.

New Range Rover Caught by a Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG

New Range Rover 2013 prototype was caught while testing on Dubai by a Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG driver. It is very easy to identify the monster Mercedes V8 Kompressor engine!
And from the footage, the major lines of the new Range Rover is very clear. And I can say one thing, Land Rover did not take a risk to introduce a fully refresh Range Rover. Instead, Land Rover re-interpret the well respected Range Rover design shift into a higher level. This re-interpretation of design is done by Bentley Continental, Audi A3. Because, including Range Rover these vehicles receive really high demand from customers and people are willing to own one. Therefore, manufacturers do not wish to take a risk and introduce something totally different, instead they introduce a car that looks a bit similar to previous generation. So, existing customers will be buy it and existing fans will keep loving it.
However, in my opinion a new car needs to be a new car. Especially in terms of design. You never see a Maserati or a Ferrari or an Alfa Romeo with similar lines with previous model. I do not criticise the manufacturers and I do understand the huge risk of introducing a totally new design for a vehicle that has very solid sales performance.
Still, I go for the Mercedes-Benz G Wagon :)

Land Rover Defender: Off Road

Land Rover Defender; for many people Defender is an ugly, out-dated, heavy, overpriced, useless vehicle. I do had adverse opinions about the Defender but not that much, however I never thought Defender would offer one of the best off road capability on the market.
I have driven many different off road vehicles and I can say one thing, nothing can stop a Land Rover Defender. I drove the Defender in a tough off road and there is nothing can stop. The chassis is excellent, engine is very powerful, low-range gearbox is superb, anti-stall function allows to drive like an automatic car, steering wheel is accurate and response. All these features are crucial for off road terrain, unfortunately electronic gadgets cannot help you all the time. Especially, the anti-stall function in Land Rover Defender is a state-of-art technology and Land Rover does not promote it (This is another case).
Finally, if you want a proper off road vehicle and do not wish to pay lots of money, go and buy a Land Rover Defender. You will not be disappointed!

Range Rover Evoque Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham’s limited edition Range Rover Evoque is finally revealed! As I mentioned yesterday, I was expecting to see something a bit catastrophic and hopefully I was wrong. Beckham’s edition looks really nice and there is no design bit that ruins the harmony. On the contrary, Beckham edition looks a bit muscular than feminine. Exterior matte finish black with black forged 20-inch wheels turns this limited edition into a really muscular car. I was expecting to see some flashy colours of this fashion season but Beckham did not wish to spoil the Evoque with contemporary fashion.
Interior looks way much better! The hand stitched vintage inspired leather seats are completed with rose gold-plated accents. And here we can see that, Victoria Beckham places her signature! There is one thing I never liked in a car, gold. Unfortunately, this very valuable material may not improve the harmony of a luxury vehicle, instead it sometimes ruin the harmony. However, Evoque Beckham is not covered with gold inside, and I did not see it with my own eyes. So, I don’t want to be so brutal while criticising but, I still consider it as a minus for this vehicle.
It did not finish yet, when you buy this limited to 200 Evoque, you will have also get a four pieces of Victoria Beckham leather luggage and a hand-sewn leather wallet for owner’s manual with her signature (I hope she signed them by herself, not a printed signature). When you consider the price Victoria Beckham’s fashion line, these four pieces of leather luggage is a bargain. If you would like to buy them from Net-A-Porter, you would definitely pay more money than an Evoque.
Unfortunately, Beckham’s limited edition is only available with coupe version. And that’s a pain when you wish to get onto rear seat. Because, it is impossible especially if someone is as tall as Victoria Beckham with skyscraper heels tries to get onto back seats, the result will be a fail!
In general, this car is way much better than I expected from Victoria Beckham. Unfortunately, they did not stop inspiring the Evoque from the fashion and they priced as £79,995 not £80,000. Sorry but it is very very expensive. You can buy a proper Range Rover or a Porsche 911 or Mercedes SL for this price.
