Opel, Georgia May Jagger and the Grumpy Cat

Georgia May Jagger and the Grumpy Cat were behind the cameras for the Opel’s 2017 calendar. This year’s theme of the calendar is ‘Opel Wonderland of Dreams’. So when you say wonderland, it will not be complete with the Internet phenomenon, the Grumpy Cat. I do not think the cat has any idea what is he doing but he completes the scenery.

So, which cars are featured in Opel 2017 calendar? A gold-plated 1956 Kapitan (the two-millionth Opel built), a 1970s Diplomat sedan, a GT concept seen at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, The Adam Rocks, Astra, Mokka X, and Ampera-e (I did not know that they still produced this car).

Why is Grumpy Cat in Opel’s calendar? The answer is simple, 8-million likes on his Facebook page. Nowadays, whoever has enough likes is a celebrity.

New Vauxhall Corsa

New Vauxhall Corsa review. Last week, I was in Liverpool to review the fourth generation Vauxhall Corsa or Opel Corsa. The fourth generation Corsa offers more distinctive front and rear designs. The interior also offer better materials and a touch screen that enables you to use radio, apps (Yes, there are apps available for Corsa) and other functions of the vehicle. In addition, I really like the heated steering-wheel.
The engines A 1.0-litre, three-cylinder ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo (90 HP / 115 HP), 1.2-litre (72 HP), 1.4-litre (90 HP), 1.4-litre-turbo (150 HP) and the diesel 1.3 CDTi (75 HP / 95 HP). I would suggest the 1.0-lt engine! 90 HP is more than enough. The transmissions are 6-speed manual (Avoid it, it is manual), 6-speed automatic and five-speed automated manual Easytronic. I would highly suggest the 6-speed automatic for smooth ride and comfort. But Easytronic can be a better option for the economy.
Corsa is a really nice small car for every day use. The features that are offered are way more than what you expect from a small car. Just remember, ten years ago, a touch screen was something impossible to spot in Corsa. Now, Corsa offer many features that bring more comfort to your journey without increase the price!

Top Gear Race Track is on Google Street View

Top Gear racetrack is on Google Street View. Vaww, very exciting news! Okay, let me be honest, this is very exciting news. It would be great to go around the Top Gear’s legendary racetrack. However, the way it was presented on YouTube was totally dull.
Google’s Street View car, Opel Astra was chased by the Stig. The Stig? The boring character of Top Gear and each time, it reveals his identity and destroys the game. The Stig was burning the tyre of a Mercedes SLS AMG GT Coupe. And burning more tyre and making donuts at the end of the video.
Level of creativity, absolute zero. Level of excitement, zero. Level of being interesting, really interest because Google Street View car is on the show.
Why I find the Stig and Top Gear dull? Unfortunately, Top Gear ran out of creative ideas. It has been more than ten years and each new episode is a repetition of the previous ones. At the end of the day, this is car show. What you can do with the cars? And they are replaced every seven-year. Even though, I write about cars, sometimes I found them really boring. And this happened with Top Gear. The Stig, races, burning tyres. They were fine for half a decade but not anymore.
Do I watch Top Gear? Yes and No! If you consider watching it by skipping, yes I do. I am sure if Top Gear reads this article, they will be mad at me. But this is what I really think about Top Gear.

The Most Sympathetic Car Show, Москва 24!

The most sympathetic car show, Москва 24! You probably never predict the answer, sorry it is not the one starts with T or F. The most sympathetic car show is from Russia by Anastasia Tregubova. According to my content, you may think I have a biased view. But No! This is a very objective judgement. Until Kate Upton starts a car show :)
I watched many car shows since I started to watch TV. There were some terrible, some excellent, some creative, some boring, some inspiring and some nothing! However, most of the shows had a similar concept. More or less they were the same or they reached their creative boundaries and entered into a loop!
The thing I like with Anastasia’s Москва 24 is the naïve character of the show. She is not trying to burn tyre or racing with F35 jet plane or pushing boundaries to make us laugh. What Anatasia does, a car show made by a women :) Москва 24 is like Maserati GranTurismo; combination of feminine curves with muscular lines. I really don’t find interesting to see smoke coming from the tyres at 200 km/h inside a corner, because it is the loop which I found not anymore interesting.
Москва 24 is in Russian and I have no clue what Anastasia says during the show, actually YouTube translates it but, still I have no clue. But I like the concept of the show and the scenario, simple and elegant. I am expecting Anastasia to do the show in English in future :)
And now you can jump to news from Das Neu Mercedes S-Klasse! Sorry the new Mercedes S-Class.

How to Charge an Electric Car for Free? Free Electricity?

How to charge your electric car for free? This is one of the biggest question silently goes around everyone’s head, who are planning to buy an electric car.
Some of the electric cars come with on-board generator like Opel Ampera, so you don’t need to find a socket to plug your car. But you will still use petrol to charge your car, that’s the problem. And some electric cars come with nothing more than batteries and no generator on-board. So, you have to find a plug to charge your car.
Using electricity to charge your car might be cheap in UK, but there is a global perspective. In many countries electricity is very expensive and people try to reduce their electcity consumption in many different ways. For those people, charging their own car from their house is not a very brilliant idea! If someone is trying to reduce electricity consumption by replacing light bulbs, you cannot sell them an electric car! This is the ugly truth.
So what to do? There are couple of tricky ways to charge an electric car for free. You can visit your friend and plug your car to their socket and you will be the loneliest person on this planet surrounded by six billion people. This option is not very plausible and a bad attitude. Another option is to visit a university campus and try to charge your car for free. In some universities they offer free chargers but not in every university so keep in mind. There are some other ways to charge an electric for free but you may end up in police station very quickly.
The fundamental solution to charging an electric car for free is to have a solar panel installed at your home. Sun is free and solar panels transfer the sun light into electricity. Of course they do have limitations; solar panels provide the best efficiency at 25 degrees Celsius. Extreme hot and extreme cold reduce their performance but still you will have the free electricity.
You may find solar panel instalment is a very good solution but it is not cheap as well. When you invest a serious amount of money to an electric car, you will not be happy with the price solar panels.
My suggestion, automotive industry should create funds to provide free solar panels to customers who buy electric cars. However, creating a fund for solar panels is not easy. There should be a government incentive and automotive industry should be motivated as well. I have some doubts about that, because automotive industry is designed to take money not to cash-back to customers. Finance industry does this very well, give money and take it back ;)
But the solar panels are one of the most fundamental parts of the electric cars. Without providing free electricity, why people should buy electric cars?
Another solution is, automotive industry can manufacture solar panel but it won’t go well.
Back to basic, make a contract with solar panel companies and provide them for free to customers. Thus, motivation to buy an electric will dramatically increase. I don’t think anyone will say no to free electricity :)
Will it come true?

Cars in James Bond Skyfall

James Bond Skyfall, I have just watched the movie and I wanted to write about the cars in the movie. Because, there are more cars placed in Skyfall that you imagine.
The list starts with Land Rover Defender and Audi A4. Then JaguarXJ as you expected, then we Range Rover as usual. China sequences starts with Mercedes S500 (S550 for US market) and the taxi was a Volkswagen Passat. And we saw Land Discovery 4 as police vehicles and as a normal vehicle. I totally forgot the wrecked Volkswagen Beetles in the Turkey.
The London Police was driving Kia Optima, Sportage and Opel/VauxhallAstra. I really don’t know whether the London Police drives Kia or not! And the fire trucks were Dennis, a British classic. Later on, Bond left the Jaguar XJ and moved away with the Aston Martin DB5.
If there are more cars, I will update the post later. It was quite hard to keep up with in the Skyfall :)

Land Rover Defender
Audi A4
Jaguar XJ

Opel / Vauxhall Adam Real Life Photos

Opel / Vauxhall Adam, I know you have been waiting for this. Since I uploaded the photos of Adam to Instagram, I realised the huge curosity for Adam. I think, during the history of Opel / Vauxhall none of their cars ever ignited curiosity this much.

Most of the Opel / Vauxhall cars look a bit dull or to conservative to make you excited so much. However, Adam is totally different. It offers seven different light colours, proper personalisation from exterior colours to interior ambient lighting. Adam is a big step for Opel / Vauxhall, now they created a new path for the future vehicles. In other words, they put the bar so high their new cars should be better than the Adam!

Unfortunately, Adam is only available with 1.2-lt 70 PS, 1.4-lt 87 PS and 100 PS petrol engines coupled with pre-historic 5-speed manual. Opel / Vauxhall did a great job with Adam but 5-speed manual does not match with Adam’s harmony.

I am sure, more engines and better manual and automatic gearbox options will be available. I assume many people will not pay attention to these details :)

Vauxhall/Opel Ampera: Electric Cars with Generator

Vauxhall Ampera or Opel Ampera, I was waiting for this car for quite long time. I know, I do sound a bit funny, why I should wait a Vauxhall/Opel? Actually, Ampera is the electric car of the Vauxhall/Opel, that’s right they made an electric car that looks like a proper car and with an on-board generator.
You might be thinking there are plenty of electric cars why Ampera is different. Most of the electric cars do not have an on-board generator to charge the batteries, but Ampera does have one. And do not confuse with hybrid technology. In hybrid technology, petrol engine is also connected to wheels but with Ampera, the petrol engine is not connected to wheels and is only designed to charge the batteries when they are out of charge.
The most fundamental problem of electric cars is the charging for long journeys and with the Ampera, you don’t have to worry about this. You can drive as much as you want, until your tank is empty. Or you can charge the Ampera with any electric socket, board computer shows you the estimated charging time.
Today I had opportunity to drive the Ampera with pure electricity. And it was a bit different than the normal driving experience. First of all, when you start the engine there are no engine noise at all. Ampera is more silent than many laptops!
Driving the Ampera is no different from an automatic car, just move the gear lever into Drive position and depress the throttle. As soon as you depress the throttle, you will feel the torque instantly. The electric motors have an advantage, they can deliver their maximum torque instantly. Ampera accelerates much better than many other cars, consumption is nearly to nothing. Interior comfort is much better than any other Vauxhall/Opel vehicle, sorry to say this. And Ampera features two screens, one for instrument panel and one for navigation. And both them offers very clear image, this is really important with screens.
Honestly, I was expecting a dull driving experience with a senseless steering wheel but it was totally the opposite. I had so much fun! Even though, I don’t like to drive car. Ampera is the future, until we have the hydrogen cars. You experience the electric power without worrying about the battery, this is what customers want!
However, there is a minor problem. Button on the central console are touch sensitive and it makes your life very hard while driving. With touch sensitive button, there are feedback from the button and you cannot be sure whether you pressed it or not. And also, accidental touch is unavoidable.
In general, I couldn’t find anything really annoying with Ampera. If I had the money, I would definitely ordered one today. It is fun, it very economical, it looks very good and it does offer a better experience than any other Vauxhall/Opel. You might be thinking, what about Fisker Karma? Fisker Karma is a luxury electric car with on-board generator and yes it does look better than Ampera and at them same time, more expensive.
Ampera is powered by a 73 PS electric motor, fuel is electric but you need to fill up petrol for generator. Fuel consumption is 1.3 lt/km (217.3 mpg) for extra-urban, 0.9 lt/km (315.9 mpg) for urban and 1.2 lt/km (235.4 mpg) for combined. And CO2 emission is only 27 gr/km.

Opel / Vauxhall Adam is here!

Opel/Vauxhall Adam is here! Adam is the mini car from Opel and they were a bit late for this segment. Opel is very well known for small cars but never introduced a car in mini segment to compete with Fiat 500 and Mini. I really don’t know why Opel hesitate to enter this market while they have a competitive power with Corsa.

So, Opel designed a very competitive car and named it as Adam. Honestly, I never liked the design of Opel cars. They are neither bad nor good! So, this makes Opel cars a bit conservative and boring. I really appreciate designs that are simple, elegant and tells you something about the car. And, Opel Adam does not look like a traditional Opel and looks really good! Adam is the best looking Opel for quite long time!

I am definitely sure that, Opel Adam will capture some of the mini segment with this competitive design. Even if a car offers so much technology and features, design is the most important factor for the purchase decision. And Opel did a very good job!

Opel Adam will be available with start/stop function; 1,2-lt petrol (69 PS) and 1,4-lt petrol (86 PS and 100 PS) and coupled with six-speed manual. I am sure Opel will offer a type of automatic transmission for Adam.

Summer Sales: Vauxhall %20 OFF

I usually ignore the advertisements on internet, like most of you. However, those advertisements sometimes (!) hinder something, which can be very charming. This happened with me a few minutes ago. I accidently clicked web advertisement of Vauxhall. Because, it was really interesting! A car advertisement with these two words “%20 OFF” is extremely hard to ignore.
This is technically something really impossible in automotive industry, in other words; %20 off for a new car means %90 off for a new season clothes at Selfridges, Harrods or Net-A-Porter. Just ask a woman, is it possible to see %90 off in these stores, and she’ll reply “impossible”.
But this time, it is possible. Vauxhall is on sale, %20 for new cars! I don’t know the details but even this part sounds great. If you are considering buying a family car or replacing your old one and you don’t have any passion on any particular brand, just run to closet Vauxhall dealer. I know Vauxhall is a bit dull drive and does not offer new things to market and, etc, etc! These are real facts, Mondeo looks and drive better, Passat is better made; but none of them offer %20 off for a new car. Forget the adverse side of the world and focus on the positive side ;)
