Sense of fashion by Jeremy Clarkson

Many of you did not watch TopGear yesterday. World cup was a better option, actually I don’t like football and world cup was not something very interesting for me! The ones who did not watch TopGear missed something!
For many years, Jeremy Clarkson was an icon for catastrophic sense of fashion. Contrary to his knowledge on automotive, he is a one start rated EuroNCAP crash test for fashion. He wears the same things for decades! I know many of his clothes are from designer brands but the way he combines them are worse than Cee’d!
However yesterday, something has happened and he remembered that there is something called fashion! And hopefully he was looking decent. Sometimes I agree his comments for automotive but for fashion, no way! Richard Hammond is doing much better than Clarkson ;)

Top Gear Magazine March 2010 with a Tyre

For long years I have been reading Top Gear Magazine, in addition to watching Top Gear. Top Gear Magazine is one of the most entertaining car magazines on earth!
A few minutes ago, Top Gear Magazine’s Editor Conor McNicholas tweeted the cover of March issue. However, there was something interesting! The tyre! Yes, that’s a proper tyre and as I guessed from the tread of the tyre, that is a four season!?!
And I send tweet to Conor immidiately to find an answer to my very important question. And he told me that “That’s an Infiniti alloy (and Bridgestone tyre). We said we liked them a while back so Infinit just sent us one in. Sits by my desk.”
This is what I call a proper public relation :)

Top Gear; just only a big budget ?

Even if you are not interested on car shows, you would probably once watch a small clip from BBC Top Gear. For more than 30 years and from different producers and presenters, Top Gear is a living legendary. Yes, some people don’t like them but they should be respected for keeping Top Gear alive for long years. I know that car shows sounds very easy. Make a call to media relations of manufacturers and request test cars and make some shooting then add music and speech. That’s all ! Here is the senseless, pointless, meaningless car show. I think some people are not aware that, you can find hundreds of videos like this on YouTube. And therefore, most of the car shows are very boring. Some of them are changing their show’s name every year. It started from 5. Gear, next year 6. Gear, next year 7. Gear and next year 8. Gear (This show does not have any relation with Fifth Gear). Finally and eventually the show ended, it suppose to end because car show was very close to be turned into truck show. “As we change the gear every year, we are in tenth gear and it is only in trucks. And here is the new MAN TGX”. Before this happened, they stopped the show :)
If you Google about car shows, you can find millions of like this and they always make the impression of “this is a totally different show”. Yes, totally different some of them are confusing the features of vehicles, or exaggerate so much even the manufacture is shocked! When we think about Top Gear, they are saying what true is or wrong about the cars. Clarkson, exaggerate time to time but I cannot agree him more about BMW X6.
And if you talk with producers, they will say “Top Gear has lots of money and we don’t”. That’s a real excuse and I cannot say anything. Until today, I have just found a car show in Cypriot TV, Mega TV. Its name is Traction. As I know very very little Greek and I have no idea what they are saying but it was entertaining! I don’t think that, they have budget like Top Gear to spend for Range Rover crew car! However, they did an excellent job with that limited budget. So, what we learn from this; if you want to do something very well money is not the issue all the time. Because, creativity is not nourished by wealth. You are just creative or not and this is making the difference ;)

BMW X6, Ultimate Something !?!

Last weekend, on BBC Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson reviewed the BMW X6. For those who don’t know what X6 is, there is a short description. X6 is not a name of mobile phone from BMW, it is more complicated than that! BMW X6 is sport activity coupe, in more understandable terms that is a coupe look, big from outside, small from inside, lack of off roading vehicle which looks like an off roader. Probably you should have seen one and you couldn’t understand what that was.
Honestly, BMW X6 is the most agile SUV and handles like a go-kart. When you consider the size of X6 and its handling ability, it is marvellous. That’s a piece of engineering! If you try to do the same tricks with Range Rover or any other SUV, you would probably rollover. However, X6’s driving pleasure does not provide enough motivation to pay its huge price tag. That’s a very good car but it has lots of annoying features which can be considered as obstacles to prevent you to buy it.
It handles very well, actually it handles too well and your whole body jumps along the car unless you are not driving in airport runaway. The iDrive, which cannot be used by anyone who has a valid driving licence is second annoying thing (In order to use iDrive, you must be between 10-15 years old). I have to add; iDrive is revised and became more usable !? And the other interesting fact is that, its off road ability. Actually there is no off road ability except parking on sidewalks. Interior is worse, if you are drive X6 very fast that good! Because, there is back view, you must drive very fast to be hit by anyone from your back. And also review mirror is one of the useless thing inside the car. Also the stupid gearlever and stupid paddle shifts are also mentioned by Clarkson.
I don’t agree with Clarkson all the time but this time he is right. Why should I buy a X6? There is no rational reason to buy it. But people are buying it. Of course, its design is a goood motivation, also its different characters is the key point! People want to be different, they don’t want to use stereotyped products. They try to differentiate their selves with their car’s personality. By this way, cars like X6 always have a small demand. With that price tag, they could buy much better cars with better personality. Welcome to popular culture :)
In one sentence; expecting off road ability from BMW X6 is like expecting to look younger with Nivea Q10 :)
If someone gives it for free, I would love to drive it! But I won’t buy it ;)

Top Gear, Gold Jacket :)

BBC Top Gear is the most very well known car programme on earth. And for last fourteen seasons, they made us laugh even the automotive business was sinking :) I really like the way they review the cars and most of the time, I agree with them. However, there is one such thing I won’t agree with them. That’s their sense of fashion :) I am not an expert on fashion but James May’s gold jakcet makes it clear that; listen their top tips for cars but they try their fasion style ;)
