BMW’s New Collection: 114d, 316i, 320i ED and xDrive

BMW Autumn Collection. BMW recently updated its product range with new engine options and new drive train. Here is the new collection of BMW;
BMW 114d: 1.6-lt diesel with 95 PS of power and 235 Nm of torque. 114d offers the same engine as 116d but with lower turbo pressure, so don’t think that it is 1.4-lt diesel. For countries with high taxation, 114d will not provide the cheap tax bracket.
BMW 120d xDrive: 2-lt diesel engine with 184 PS of power and four-wheel drive. 120d xDrive only needs 7.2 seconds to reach 100 kph. In my opinion, 120d xDrive will reduce the rear-wheel drive car fun but on the other hand, you can have more fun on snow ;)
BMW M135 xDrive: 320 PS engine with four-wheel drive! And just 4.7 seconds to reach 100 kph. M135 xDrive may not be great fun to drive on dry conditions but under rain and snow, M135 xDrive would be amazing.
BMW 316i: 1.6-lt turbo petrol engine with 136 PS and 220 Nm of torque. We had this car for ages in Turkey, previous 316i was underpowered but it was still good to drive. Best thing with 316i, if you want to enjoy the comfort and technology of BMW and don’t want to pay a lot, 316i is the best option. 316i needs 9.2 seconds to reach 100 kph but for that price tag and features, that’s good deal. For countries with high taxation, 316i is the king!
BMW 320i EfficientDynamics: 320i is not 2-lt petrol engine , it is a 1.6-lt turbo petrol engine produces 170 PS and only needs 7.2 seconds to reach 100 kph and efficient. Sounds a bit unusual! Again for countries with high taxation, save a bit more and buy 320i EfficientDynamics instead of 316i. Not only, you will drive faster but also you can show your environmental side :)
Active Protection and Attentiveness Assistant safety systems are now available with 3-Series with “reasonable” prices. Active Protection detects any potential collision and tightens the seatbelts, closes windows and sunroof and can break the car into standstill, if you were too lazy to break! Attentiveness Assitant is basically detects whether you are sleeping or not.
And BMW Connected Drive and navigation system is updated. Live traffic and 3D view is not available and also BMW can understand what you said. I didn’t try but I guess if speech recognition is not from Apple, it never works.
BMW’s new collection sounds tempting, none of the vehicles sounds boring and BMW designed them to be eligible for different markets. But still BMW is expensive!

BMW 640d xDrive

BMW just released the information about the all-wheel drive 640d xDrive. During last decade, Mercedes and BMW increased the portion of all-wheel drive models all over their vehicle range. Like in Mercedes, you may have the xDrive system on any model except 1 Series! I am not complaining about this, however 6 Series always have a special place for me with its rear wheel drive; it is more fun!
I know that all-wheel drive lets you to cope with adverse road conditions and you can drive your coupe freely at any weather condition. Also, the system allows you to have fun but I would still go for rear wheel drive for 6 Series.  Still, it is good to have xDrive on 6 Series!
Engine is a TwinPower Turbo diesel 3-lt produces 313PS with 630nm of torque and accelerate to 100 kph (62 mph) in just 5,2 seconds.

BMW xDrive vs. Audi Quattro vs. Mercedes 4MATIC

As the weather is getting cold and snow is approaching to our houses day by day. I wanted to clear out the most important dilemma of automotive industry. Which is better? Audi Quattro, Mercedes 4MATIC of BMW xDrive.

If you have no idea about these things, I can summarise them in a different way. These brands represent four-wheel drive system from different car manufacturers. Despite the fact that each system rotates each wheel but there are serious fundamental difference within each other. This is like comparing handbags from Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu and Mulberry. They all offer handbags but each of them have different characteristics.

According to YouTube videos, the best four-wheel drive system is BMW xDrive! I know, Audi fans will be shouting Quattro is the best, but Quattro has a longer response time when the wheels are spinning. Also Mercedes 4MATIC cannot response as quick as BMW xDrive.

Like you, I am surprised with the results. I was expecting the legendary Quattro will be the quickest system but BMW did its homework very well and developed a better four-wheel drive system. Also, everything is done by electronics. No mechanical locks or anything. The traction control applies brake to each wheel, when it realises a traction loss. Very simple and works brilliantly!

Global Four Wheel Drive

Last one decade we heard this phrase all the time, “global warming.” I am not going to discuss about this here. But I noticed something a bit interesting!
During last one decade, automotive firms started to offer something quite opposite to global warming, four wheel drive option for passenger vehicles. As we all know that, global warming means there will be warmer weather and less snow! This means, we don’t need four wheel drive, single axle traction will be adequate.
Interestingly, automotive firms thought totally something else and started to expand the four wheel drive option across the whole passenger vehicle range. Especially Mercedes and BMW did this very well! You can have four wheel drive option nearly in each model.
Honestly I really like the four wheel drive passenger vehicles, there are more stable and you don’t have to worry about any adverse weather condition.
In reality, we still have very tough winter and lots of snow all over the world. Actually in some countries, there were enormous amount snows. As a result of this very noticeable condition, the demand for four wheel passenger cars increased! Because, people feel more confident when they have traction on four wheels.
My advice from this condition, Jaguar should not focus on an SUV model. Instead of this, they should focus on four wheel drive option in XF and XJ models. I know you will say, there was an X-Type with four wheel drive. But the X-Type was the worst thing ever happened to Jaguar, and it was based on a Ford Mondeo and it was front wheel drive and it was not that good either. So, current vehicle range of Jaguar is more suitable for four wheel drive.
Mercedes calls four wheel drive system as 4MATIC and BMW calls it xDrive. Audi already had the Quattro for very long time.
PS: Four wheel drive option in Mercedes and BMW may not able available in right hand drive models!
