New Porsche 718 Cayman

Few minutes ago, Porsche revealed the new 718 Cayman. Similar to the 718 Boxster, it shares the new 4-cylinder boxster engine. As I am really excited with the news, I have just copy pasted the press release (I really don’t like to do this). However, I will amend the text as soon as possible.

I am a Porsche 911 fan for decades, but the Porsche 718 Cayman looks amazing!

Apologise for any mistakes.

===
Like the 718 Boxster, the new 718 Cayman models continue the tradition of the Porsche 718 mid-engined sports cars that won numerous races in the 1950s and 1960s, powered by four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engines.

New four-cylinder turbocharged engines
The same new four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engines with turbocharging that first debuted in the 718 Boxster are shared with the 718 Cayman. As a result, coupé and roadster Porsche models offer identical engine outputs for the first time. The 718 Cayman derivative is powered by a 300 hp (220 kW) 2.0-litre engine. The 718 Cayman S features a 350 hp (257 kW) 2.5-litre engine. This represents 25 hp more power compared to the prior models, with NEDC fuel economy also increasing to 34.9 – 40.9 mpg Combined.

The tremendous thrust from the new engines promises rewarding levels of responsiveness even at low revs. The 2.0-litre engine of the 718 Cayman produces up to 380 Nm (plus 90 Nm) of torque, generated between 1,950 – 4,500 rpm.

The 2.5-litre engine of the 718 Cayman S features a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry (VTG). This technology has been hitherto used exclusively in the 911 Turbo, and is unique to Porsche in petrol engine applications.

In the 718 Cayman S, the VTG turbocharger additionally has a wastegate. The engine delivers up to 420 Nm (an extra 50 Nm) between 1,900 and 4,500 rpm. For the driver, this means improved torque across all engine speeds. This translates into especially dynamic performance; the 718 Cayman with PDK and optional Sport Chrono Package sprints from zero to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds. The 718 Cayman S completes this sprint in 4.2 seconds. The top speed of the 718 Cayman is 170 mph, and the 718 Cayman S can reach a speed of 177 mph..

New chassis tuning for greater precision and more cornering stability
In terms of driving dynamics, the new 718 Cayman follows in the spirit of the classic 718 cars. Thanks to their outstanding agility, the historic mid-engine sports racers won numerous races in the 1950s and 1960s such as the Targa Florio and Le Mans.

The comprehensively retuned chassis of the 718 Cayman has increased dynamic responsiveness and cornering grip; springs and anti-roll bars have been designed to be firmer and the tuning of the shock absorbers has been revised. The steering, which has been configured to be ten per cent more direct, enhances agility and consequently increases driving pleasure further still. The rear wheels, which are half an inch wider, in combination with the re-developed tyres result in an increased lateral force potential and hence greater cornering grip.

Driving dynamics options such as the Sport Chrono Package and the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) electronically-controlled rear limited slip differential allow the sporting character of the 718 Cayman to be further custom-tailored to suit individual preferences. Another available option is Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) with -10 mm lower ride height. Additionally, in the S model, PASM sport suspension combined with a – 20 mm lower ride height is offered for the first time.

The Sport Chrono Package can be adjusted via the mode switch on the steering wheel. Supplementing the previous settings of ‘Normal’, ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport Plus’ is the ‘Individual’ programme, which is able to call up previously programmed individual settings for various systems.

On account of the new car’s greater driving performance capabilities, stronger brake systems are now in use with 330 mm brake discs in front and 299 mm discs at the rear. The 718 Cayman features the brake system that was previously used in the Cayman S. The 718 Cayman S in turn uses the four-piston callipers of the 911 Carrera, combined with 6 mm thicker brake discs.

Distinctive design for a more muscular appearance
The new 718 Cayman has been further developed as comprehensively in its design as in its technology. The taut proportions, prominent air intakes at the front and sides and sweeping profile underscore the boost in dynamics. The nose has a much sharper profile, which gives the front end a wider and more purposeful appearance.

The ultra-slim front lights above the air intakes, which contain the parking lights and indicators, further reinforce this impression. Rounding off the front end of the 718 Cayman are the significantly larger cooling air intakes and Bi-Xenon headlights in a new design with integrated LED daytime running lights. LED headlights with four-point daytime running lights are available as a new option.

Viewed from the side, the new coupé reveals its striking sculptured wheel-arches and side sills. The re-designed rear also has a much wider appearance, emphasised by a high-gloss black strip with integrated Porsche badge between the tail lights. The tail lights themselves have been completely re-designed and are distinguished by their technological three-dimensional styling and four brake individual brake lights that appear to float freely.

Redesigned interior and PCM as standard
Behind the wheel, subtle revisions are apparent in both the 718 Cayman and the 718 Boxster. The upper part of the dash panel including air vents is new. The new sports steering wheel in ‘918 Spyder’ design as well as the extensive connectivity options have now been added to the 718 cockpit, along with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) as a standard feature. Mobile phone preparation, audio interfaces and the 150-watt Sound Package Plus are all part of this standard.

Options are available to extend the PCM. The Connect module, for example, includes special extensions for smartphones, such as the USB port, Apple CarPlay and Porsche Car Connect. Another option is the satellite navigation module with voice control, which makes it easy to input driving destinations. If the Connect Plus module is selected, this can be extended with real-time traffic information. Drivers can also make use of additional comprehensive services via their smartphone, which include the Porsche Connect App and Porsche Car Connect App.

The new 718 Cayman models are available to order today from Porsche Centres in the UK and Ireland. For the first time, the coupé is priced below the roadster – in a similar way to the 911 models. First deliveries begin in the autumn.

The 718 Cayman is priced from £39,878.00 RRP, and the 718 Cayman S costs from £48,834.00 RRP.

Porsche Cayman GT4 at the Autosport International 2016

The Porsche Cayman GT4 is at the Autosport International (NEC, Birmingham). Personally, I never liked cars with a fixed rear wing. They always reminded me of the Enterprise from Star Trek. This time, it is a bit different. Porsche recently revealed the Cayman GT4; for some people, it is just a Cayman. It is a car for people who can’t afford to buy a Porsche 911. However, this is just an average approach to a state-of-the-art car from Porsche.

The Cayman GT4 was offered in limited numbers, so this is not a car you can buy at any time. Therefore, I decided to share the photos from the Autosport event from last month. The unique driving experience with the GT4 is the rear-mid engine, which can’t be found on the Porsche 911 and harmonised with the GT DNAs! That’s why Cayman GT4 is a really special car.

Porsche Boxster and Cayman will be 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman

Last night Porsche sent a press release and gave us a big surprise. Cayman and Boxster will be branded as 718 Cayman and 718 Boxtser. This was just the tip of the surprise, Porsche also announced that these models will be featuring 4-cylinder petrol engine. As many people asked me the details, I decided to upload the whole press release text.

Stuttgart. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman – these will be the new names of the two-door mid-engine sports cars from Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG effective with the 2016 model changeover. The Stuttgart car manufacturer’s 718 designation is a reference to the ground-breaking sports car of this type of the year 1957, which enjoyed much success in renowned car races. The 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman are showing more similarities – both visual and technical. In the future, both will have equally powerful four-cylinder flat engines with turbocharging. The Roadster will be positioned at a higher price level than the Coupé – as is done for the 911 models. Porsche will introduce the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman over the course of 2016.

The 718 model series is a continuation of the proven four-cylinder concept and the history of distinguished Porsche sports cars. The latest example is the 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car, which also has a highly-efficient, turbocharged four-cylinder engine with just 2 litres of displacement. So, not only did Porsche finish first and second in the 24 hours of Le Mans, but most recently it also won the manufacturer’s and driver’s championship titles in the WEC World Endurance Championship. With these victories, the 919 Hybrid has opened up the prospects for the performance potential of future sports car engines from Porsche.

History of the 718: four-cylinder flat engine has many car racing victories
Four-cylinder flat engines have a long tradition at Porsche – and they have enjoyed incredible success. In the late 1950s, the 718 – a successor to the legendary Porsche 550 Spyder – represented the highest configuration level of the four-cylinder flat engine. Whether it was competing at the 12-hour race in Sebring in 1960 or at the European Hill Climb Championship that ran between 1958 and 1961, the Porsche 718 prevailed against numerous competitors with its powerful and efficient four-cylinder flat engine. The 718 took first place in 1959 and 1960 at the legendary Italian Targa Florio race in Sicily. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans race 1958, the 718 RSK with its 142-hp four-cylinder engine scored a class victory.

Porsche 919 Hybrid: technological front-runner for production cars
In 2014, Porsche returned to the top category of the famous endurance race in Le Mans and the WEC world endurance championship with the 919 Hybrid race car. The LMP1 vehicle, which was designed for extreme efficiency, is the most complex race car that Porsche has ever built. It serves as a platform for fundamental technology research for future production models – combining two different energy recovery systems with a two-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine.

Lightly Revised and Updated BMW Z4 All Photos 1

BMW Z4 is updated but very lightly. As the competition on the market increased with the recently introduced Porsche Cayman and fresh new Mercedes SLK, aging BMW decided to update its roadster.
However, the update is so light you may not realise the difference between the normal Z4 and updated Z4!
BMW ConnectedDrive features are extended, such as high beam assistant, internet based information systems, real time traffic information, automatic collision notification system are available.
And the starting engine is now 2-lt turbo petrol engine with 154 HP and 240 Nm of torque. And can be ordered with 8-speed automatic gearbox. Z4 sDrive35is with 335 HP is now only available with 7-speed double clutch automatic gearbox (DCT).
And there concierge services with the BMW ConnectedDrive system, but why do you need a concierge service, when you can find everything from Google. In my opinion, concierge services may attract only specific type of customers. Nowadays, we can sort out everything from internet very quickly.
And sDrive does not mean something special, it is the new branding strategy of BMW to differentiate rear-wheel drive models from the all-wheel drives.

New Porsche Cayman: Better Than Ever

Porsche Cayman, the coupe version of Boxster. Many people including me never had a sympathy to Cayman. Because, it was not 911! However, as the years passed Cayman looked better than better and 911 look the same. But this is the DNA of the Porsche, 911 looks always the same!
Cayman’s design evolved with each new model, its performance also improved and became faster and faster. Actually, many people suggest that Cayman offers better handling than the 911. Because, Cayman is a mid-engine car and it is balanced better. Unfortunately, I never had chance to drive a Cayman or a 911, so it would be impossible to support or reject this view.
Anyway, the new Cayman was announced in LA, USA yesterday and official details are now available. Cayman is powered by a 2.7-lt six-cylinder petrol engine with 275 HP and 290 Nm of torque. Cayman accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds with PDF 7-speed double clutch automatic. And the top speed is 264 km/h.
Cayman S is powered by a 3.4-lt six-cylinder petrol engine with 325 HP and 370 Nm of torque. Only 4.9 seconds is enough to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) with PDK automatic gearbox. And top speed is 281 km/h.
A note; Cayman S shares the same engine with Porsche 911!
Cayman S sounds much better than Cayman in terms of performance and definitely worth the price difference. And Cayman has some new features, such as ACC (radar guided cruise control) and keyless access features. These features definitely improve the experience long journey travel and I strongly advise you to have them.
Overall, Cayman and Cayman S look really great and offer superb performance. With the new technological features, they will be more competitive! And go for the Cayman S ;)

Porsche Cayman & Boxster: Think Again

When you dream of something, usually you don’t consider the price! I think this comes from the dreams, the ones we see while sleeping not during the daytime. There is a no need use money in a dream, because you can have everything with no financial concerns.
During the day dreaming, we don’t care about money too. I was doing this for Porsche 911. It is a very expensive at everywhere regardless of ruthless import taxes. 911 is an expensive but this never let me down for dreaming. And I always thinking, why people buy Boxster and Cayman while 911 is available.
So, I decided to check the price of a 911 Carrera S (It would be easier to compare with Cayman S and Boxster S). And I immediately notice that, 911 Carrera S is price nearly twice of a Cayman S or Boxster S! My dream car 911 costs relatively too much for the Porsche range. Therefore, many people rush into Cayman and Boxster. Eventually, they are not slow either! Both of them accelerate quite well and offer many 911 technologies with a more reasonable price. And also, Boxster and Cayman are middle engine cars, they will definitely offer a unique driving pleasure. 911 is a rear engine, which means that are lots of weight on the rear wheels.
Buying a Boxster or Cayman is not a bad option for the start ;)
Honestly, Cayman S is not a bad option. For that price, it is better than a BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK. They are not bad cars but Cayman is a Porsche.
