The New Rolls-Royce Phantom Event at Bonhams Mayfair, London

The new Rolls-Royce Phantom is available now! It is larger than ever and is a statement vehicle rather than a motor vehicle. It is the pinnacle of the luxury motoring experience and also it is heavy. The eighth Rolls-Royce Phantom is not something you usually spot on the road. It is not like any other Phantom ever built. Therefore, it is important to hold an exhibition for new Rolls-Royce Phantom and narrate its heritage, so you will understand why the eighth Phantom is like this.

The Great Eight Phantoms

New Bond Street, Mayfair in London, houses the world’s most expensive luxury brands. It is not a very long street, but the products that are sold there can freeze your brain. Why have I told you about New Bond Street? Bonhams is on New Bond Street and there is a Rolls-Royce exhibition in Bonhams featuring the Great Eight Phantoms. Rolls-Royce and Bonhams jointly celebrate the birth of the eight Phantom with a very special exhibition. Don’t worry, it is not bling, or you will not end up with Kim Kardashian’s Rolls-Royce Ghost.

There are seven Rolls-Royce Phantoms at the exhibition with unique touches from their era or from their owners. When you enter the Bonhams, you will be welcomed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Phantom VI. It is one of a kind, designed to offer an exceptional viewing experience due to its a raised roof. This car is still in use and you have probably seen it in London.

The second Phantom is the Field Marshal Montgomery Phantom III and also inherits the Black Badge (Rolls-Royce’s branding for the sportier version used up to the present day). It was used after the WWII and offers an exceptional design with an aerodynamic approach. As I heard from the Bonham team, this car was the centre of most of the attention. When you look at the photos, you will understand what I mean.

The next Phantom is John Lennon’s Phantom V. It is colourful and big. Really really big! Literally, John Lennons’s Phantom is larger than a flat in central London. The colour harmony of this Phantom is a great visual experience.

The next one is the Aga Khan III Phantom IV. It is green, very green, but I don’t think it will get an A rating for fuel consumption. The harmonic lines of the exterior design transports you into a different time.

The next car is from the 1920s, the era when the car designer never considered the need for a space in the form of a boot space, the Fred Astaire Phantom I. When you look at the rear of this exciting Phantom, you will see bespoke Louis Vuitton luggage sitting there without any protection. Just exposed to real-life conditions. Off-the-topic, if you wish to buy the same luggage now, just go back to New Bond Street and turn right and walk for 10 minutes. You will end up at the Louis Vuitton store on the left-hand side. There you will find the most unergonomic traditional luggage that will not fit into any car’s boot space. Back to the Phantom. The beauty of the 1920’s Phantom is the beauty of the transition period moving from horse carriages to motor vehicles. The steering-wheel is not designed to protect you in a crash and there are more adjustments than a Honda Jet, just to keep the petrol engine running. The Honda Jet offers a very simplified cockpit design and yes, Honda makes private jets.

The Sir Malcolm Campbell Phantom II belongs to the era of speed and yes, Rolls-Royce can travel at high speeds and stay in one piece, unlike Ferraris. That’s what I like about the Rolls-Royce, they don’t fall apart if you push them to the limits. Try this with a Ferrari and you will end up in the nearest Fiat service garage. Also, it is the foundation for the Waterspeed model.

The last Phantom is the previous generation Phantom VII that is available for you to see on the road. However, this one is the first Phantom from 2003. It is the first one that came out of the factory. It is slightly smaller than the rest of the other Phantoms and it has been in production for 14 years! Usually, European cars have a product lifecycle of seven years, just do the maths! Also, the last Phantom made the Mercedes-Benz Maybach go out of production. The Maybach was a disaster since it was first revealed, while the Phantom made things go faster. The existing Maybach range is produced under the Mercedes-Benz brand like the AMG.

Finally, the eighth Phantom is on the lower ground floor (-2). It is big, it is really really big, and you will not notice the size thanks to the Bonhams’ setting and the crown above it. Also, the black colour of the interior of the venue makes the Phantom look tiny. However, this car is massive, and when you see it on the road, you will have to adjust your brain to take in its size. This Phantom is a statement car. If you have it, the whole world will know that you have the money and definitely you are not a shareholder of Facebook, Apple or Google.

The eighth Phantom is a great car, in that the engineering and the attention to detail are far beyond that found in previous generations. I did my best to find mistakes but couldn’t find any, except the rear seats. They can’t turn into a bed like in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class Maybach. However, you can sit in a very relaxing position where you will fall asleep, while the super thick carpet swallows your shoes and all your feet. Also, this Phantom is one of the most silent cars on the market, even the tyres are uniquely designed for the Phantom by Continental. If you have a close look, you will see they look a bit awkward. This is because they are designed to reduce noise rather than improve the handling. As a result of the super silence and softness of the seats and the carpets, your passengers will easily fall asleep.

As far as the interior is concerned, I can’t ignore the dashboard gallery! There is an art gallery on the dashboard. It was my idea actually. However, I never managed to say it out loud. Once I mentioned it on my blog and Rolls-Royce now offers various types of art work for your dashboard, designed by inspirational artists. However, if you wish to ruin the dashboard with your personal art taste, Rolls-Royce lets you do it. Usually, my taste is the best statement that such an approach ends up terribly wrong. If you can afford to buy a Rolls-Royce Phantom this does not mean that you are a distant relative of Leonardo Da Vinci. Therefore, your taste in art would not offer something unique or something extraordinary.

Anyway, the Bonhams exhibition is available until this coming Wednesday (It is finished now). Go and visit. If you have missed it, I have the photos. The eighth Rolls-Royce Phantom is a great car with a huge heart. Yes, it is big.

Rolls-Royce Peacock Mahajara Phantom Drophead Coupe

Rolls-Royce Peacock Mahajara Phantom Drophead Coupe is probably the longest Rolls-Royce model ever made. This is not a new model; it is another limited edition. If you are expecting to read a road test of this limited edition of Rolls-Royce, unfortunately you will need to Google it again. This car is about the heritage, not the ability of cornering on Top Gear’s circuit.

Rolls-Royce and Maharaja have a decades-long relationship, more precisely for 100 years. India’s Princes and Maharajas engaged with Rolls-Royce, and during the last five decades Maharajas purchased more than 840 Rolls-Royce cars! That’s what I call a proper brand loyalty!

Consequently, this long-term relationship is crowned by a limited edition version of the Phantom Drophead Coupe that will be only available in Dubai. Where I saw it? HR Owen, Mayfair London.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupe Drophead Waterspeed Facts and Photos

The last Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed is available at HR Owen, Mayfair London dealer. Waterspeed limited edition was introduced last years on May. 33 of the Waterspeed Limited Edition are sold and this is the last one. So what is special with the Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Limited Edition, here is the story!

The Bluebird Motor Company building was commissioned in 1923 to be Europe’s largest garage and was built in the era’s characteristic Art Deco style, a style which it preserves today. The business would ultimately help fund Campbell’s pursuit to wrest the Waterspeed record from its American holders.

The car will then head to the world-renowned Concorso D’Elegenza at Villa D’Este on the shores of one of Italy’s world-famous lakes, Como, where it will be unveiled to the public for the first time. It was on the adjacent Lake Maggiore where, on 1 September 1937, Campbell established his legend, setting a world-record speed of 126.33 mph in the famous Bluebird K3 boat powered by a Rolls-Royce R Engine.

Just an additional information, it takes 10-hour to hand brush for rear metal deck. And Each piece of metal is individually panel-beaten by hand for 70 hours before the metal press!

The exterior colour is another story, it is called Maggiore Blue. Before the hand sanding process begins for the exterior colour, 9 individual layers of colours are applied to exterior body.

The price?

£458,000!

Rolls-Royce Phantom HR Owen London

Rolls-Royce Phantom from London (HR Owen), as usual taken with 50mm f 1.8 lens. I know this Phantom is from more than ten years ago and you might be wondering why I am writing about it. Despite its age, the Phantom is still the pinnacle of the ultra luxury car. There are no any other cars to substitute for this car.

Neither the Bentley Mulsanne nor Mercedes-Maybach S600 can offer the uniqueness of the Phantom. These competitors may have targeted the Ghost, but not the Phantom.

Interestingly, this time I found a Phantom with a short-wheel base. Until this point, I’d always spotted the long-wheel base model but I found this model was really short! You can spot the lack of space at the rear seats. However, a short-wheel base is not a bad thing; if you wish to drive a Phantom yourself, a short-wheel base will be more suitable for you.

Rolls Royce Phantom at Villa d’Este in Como Lake

Rolls Royce Phantom at Villa d’Este in Como Lake, Italy. Como Lake is one of the most landscape in Europe. The beauty of the water harmonised with the architectural beauty of the buildings. Unfortunately, it is quite hard to find a composition nowadays. Therefore, it is the best place to present the range of Rolls Royce Phantoms.

A few day ago, Rolls Royce debut the whole range of Phantoms in Villa d’Este hotel in Como Lake. In my personal opinion, Rolls Royce is one the most beautiful car. I consider it as a piece of art not a mean of transportation.

Rolls Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase at London

Rolls Royce Phantom Extended Wheelbase; a very unique to spot in daily life, even if you are living in London, New York, Los Angeles or Tokyo. Extended Wheelbase is a longer version of the standard Rolls Royce Phantom. And if you ever see a Phantom, you may know how long it is and the extended version is way longer, but not as long as Maybach 62.

The extra legroom provided by the Extended Wheelbase version of Phantom does not generate an extremely long vehicle, it creates a more spacious passenger side. If you are a tall person or like to travel in spacious places the Extended Wheelbase is the best solution for you.

My personal opinion, the standard Rolls Royce Phantom offers adequate level of legroom at the rear but I would never reject the Extended Wheelbase, every extra legroom is a benefit as long as the vehicle does not ugly awkward.

And also, when you order a Rolls Royce, please order with this superb carpet. Honestly, I would take out my shoes to enter this car with these carpets. They look fantastic, Rolls Royce should sell them for flats as well.

You can have a look at this Rolls Royce Phantom at HR Owen London, be careful with the car it is really really really expensive! And I would like to HR Owen team!

Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe at University of Birmingham Campus

Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe, probably the largest coupe you could find on earth! Phantom Coupe is really really big car with a timeless and elegant design. I have just spotted a Phantom Coupe in the University of Birmingham campus. I have no idea who owns the car, but don’t be surprised if it owned by a student :)

Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe is not the fastest coupe or the best handling one. Because, that’s a Rolls Royce and those figures are not on their interest list. Also, the Rolls Royce owners’ interest. The magnificent look and state-of-art comfort hinder the performance figures and you will not bothered if a Ferrari over takes you.

Just to remind, you can adjust different temperature for the higher and lower deck of the centre console in Rolls Royce Phantom!

Here is the technical information of Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe. V12 engine with 460 HP and 720 Nm of torque. 8-speed automatic gearbox with the top speed of 250 km/h, only needs 5.8 seconds to reach 100 km/h. And all Phantom range is made from aluminium! Consumption? It is a lot! I don’t think that Rolls Royce owners are bothered with the consumption figures :)

Rolls-Royce Going Off Road

Rolls-Royce and off-road, this does sound a bit awkward and unusual! If you can afford to a Rolls-Royce why don’t you buy an SUV for the off-road. However, everyone doesn’t think in the same way!
Some people recently inspired by the Rolls-Royce’s heritage and decided to go off road with Phantom II. Regarding to the heritage, Rolls Royce cars in early 1920s were driven off road and some were turned into tanks. However, at those times everywhere can be considered as off road, so it is not a very good representation of ideal terrain for Rolls-Royce.
Owner of this Rolls-Royce Phantom II pushed the limited on wet grass for an off road experience. Wet grass is one of the most slippery surfaces a car can face. Literarily, there is no traction at all and any electronic gadget became useless. Despite this fact, Rolls-Royce owner wasn’t bothered with this problem and did some serious off road! By the way, Phantom II did a great job despite its weight very close a public library :)
Rolls Royce Phantom II is powered by 6.75-lt V12 engine with 460 HP and 720 Nm of torque. The engine is coupled with 8-speed automatic gearbox and there is no equipment for off road driving, except traction and stability controls. And the Rolls-Royce Phantom II weights 2,6 tones!

Karl Lagerfeld and Rolls Royce: A Different View

Karl Lagerfeld and Rolls Royce. Collaboration of two iconic brands, A Different View. Rolls Royce photographed by Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl Lagerfeld; if you don’t this name, you have no idea of what is fashion. This is a very bold statement but this is the truth. Karl Lagerfeld is one of the most influential fashion designer. And never heard of his name is like never heard of Bill Gates and using a computer.

Lagerfeld always prefers black from head to toe coupled with sunglasses.

In my opinion, Lagerfeld has the most iconic personal style in fashion industry and probably no one can replace his style. He is a living icon. His personal style is also reflected on his collection, black and white completed with grey details.

Moreover, Karl Lagerfeld is also a professional photographer. Unlike many people, he uses professional camera to take professional photos. We all know that, nowadays anyone who buys a digital SLR, assume that I am a professional photographer! But not with Karl Lagerfeld.

A Different View is the latest work of Karl Lagerfeld. He photographed Rolls Royce Phantom and Drophead from his perspective. Lagerfeld interpreted the Rolls Royce cars from this fashion perspective. Black and white completed with metallic grey details.

And I hope that Karl Lagerfeld does not own the first generation Porsche Cayenne anymore :)

Unfortunately, I didn’t have chance to attend this event. Usually, I don’t mind if I didn’t have chance to attend an event. But this time it is different, Rolls Royce and Karl Lagerfeld. I really envy people who had opportunity to attend this unique event.

Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe for Summer

Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe, one of the most expensive cabrio or convertible car on planet. And quite rare as well. Phantom Drophead Coupe shares the same platform with Phantom model and that makes the Drophead Coupe one of the largest cabrio on market. As the weather is very hot in all around the world, there is nothing better than to talk about cabrio cars :)

As the Rolls Royce design philosophy identifies the height of vehicle by the size of the wheel. The height of a Rolls Royce is twice size of its wheel, therefore Rolls Royce vehicles are so tall! And this height turns a Rolls Royce from a vehicle to castle.

Therefore, try not to go for a lap in Nürburgring with a Rolls Royce to break a lap time because you cannot do it. However, Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe is powered by a 6.75-lt V12 petrol engine with 460 PS of power and 720 Nm of torque. This huge amount of torque provides seamless acceleration without any necessity to downshift in transmission. This V12 engine enables Drophead Coupe to reach 100 kph (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds with 8-speed automatic transmission and top speed is limited 240 kph (150 mph). Unfortunately, Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe cannot keep with a Bentley Continental GTC, but who cares!

I do know, Rolls Royce Drophead Coupe is so expensive and only a few people have the opportunity to own one but this does not stop me to write about it!
