TikTok and Angry Birds on the New Mercedes Benz E-Class

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is going to feature TikTok and Angry Birds built into the MBUX system. We have been waiting for this for a long time. While Angry Birds may be considered an outdated smartphone game (sorry, Angry Birds, but your time has passed), it’s still nice to have it available. Meanwhile, TikTok has become a social media sensation. It’s better to have TikTok on your smartphone while you are at home or on public transportation.

It is not ideal to have TikTok on your car’s screen! TikTok is the most addictive social media app, and Mercedes-Benz is offering this app on its most “boring” car, the E-Class. I think Mercedes-Benz is trying to add some excitement to the E-Class with a TikTok app, but let’s be honest, the E-Class has always been seen as a bit dull.

The E-Class is not exactly known for being fun or exciting; the CLS is the cool one. Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz is going to stop manufacturing the CLS.

From a logical perspective, adding TikTok to the E-Class is unlikely to attract a younger audience. And how are they supposed to use TikTok while driving a car? If they can only use TikTok when the car is not moving, what’s the point of having it in your car? Why not just use your smartphone?

The second strange feature in the new E-Class is inherited from the Porsche Panamera: touch screen controlled air vents. Did you know we have a built-in feature for moving air vents? It’s called our hands! Controlling air vents from a touch screen with a slight delay is like using a smartphone with a stylus!

The E-Class is a nice car in terms of engineering and technology, but it’s not designed for fun or excitement. It’s a car that gets the job done. I don’t really see the point of adding unnecessary features. I know Tesla adds everything to their cars, but the Tesla cars also have reliability issues. They even fail to do basic things like opening the door from the door handles.

The New Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The new Mercedes E-Class. It has been more than three years since I wrote about the Mercedes Benz UK. Recently, I came across the new E-Class, the all-time innovative and all-time conservative Mercedes-Benz. I always both liked and disliked the E-Class, and with my recent experience things have changed a bit.

Earlier I mentioned on my blog the pre-crash, semi-autonomous and driving assistance systems of the new E-Class. With my latest experience, I had the chance to see these technologies in real life, and to enjoy the massive screens on the dashboard.

I loved the screens on the dash. They are very clean and clear. The PPI rate is way way better than the Land Rover and Jaguar. Also, the E-Class may have overtaken the new BMW 7-Series in this area. However, the menu structure of the E-Class resembles that of the new 7-Series. I consider this to be beneficial for the driver. It will make it easier to control and use the infotainment systems on different brands. However, it is still more complicated than the IOS.

The comfort level of the new E-class is improved and now it is the smallest sized S-Class. However with the recent technological features, the E-Class has overtaken the S-Class! These features include semi-autonomous overtaking, pre-safe internal ear. The upcoming facelift of the S-class will embed all these technologies.

Despite my all efforts to find a problem inside the vehicle, everything was perfectly put together. Mercedes is literally at the same level as the Audi in terms of interior production quality.

The E-class is still practical, still good to drive, still looks conservative. However, with the latest driving assistance systems, it is way better. Also, the latest 2-lt diesel engines will increase the market share of the E-class in markets with a higher tariff for the larger engines. The only missing engine is a 1.6-lt diesel, and I am definitely sure that it will be released soon.

Unfortunately, the E-class will not be able to capture the 5-series’s core customer range. You can still feel the conservativeness of the E-class when you enter the car. However, this is Mercedes-Benz, whose cars will always have a focus on comfort.

In case you are planning to buy one to get the all pre-safe features, the semi-autonomous driving up to 130km/h, the massive infotainment system, the airmatic feature which improves the ride significantly, you may ignore to order the sound system. The base system will be more than enough. You will not regret it.

The New Mercedes-Benz E43 AMG 4MATIC

Mercedes-Benz just revealed the new E43 AMG 4MATIC. I know, we were expecting to see the E63 AMG instead of the 43. However, Mercedes-Benz decided to offer under powered AMGs to the market. Such as Audi S6! Probably, they are planning to capture a new market! Here is the details from the press release.

“Hot on the heels of the world premiere for the new Mercedes‑Benz E-Class, its first high-performance variant is on the way from Mercedes-AMG. The E 43 4MATIC with the 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine on board will represent the most powerful variant of the executive saloon when it is introduced in September 2016. With two new turbochargers and corresponding software applications, the supercharged six-cylinder engine delivers an output of 295 kW (401 hp). As ever, the standard-specification AMG Performance 4MATIC four-wheel drive combines optimum traction with high agility on the E 43, thanks to rear-biased torque distribution with a front-to-rear ratio of 31:69 percent. The 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission with shorter shift times, the retuned sports suspension based on the AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension and the more direct steering ratio also provide for signature AMG Driving Performance.”

Technical details are;

“Engine, V6 biturbo, 2996 cc. Output is 295 kW (401 hp) at 6100 rpm. Peak torque is 520 Nm at 2500-5000 rpm. Fuel consumption, combined 8.3 l/100 km. And CO2 emissions, combined 189 g/km. Kerb weight 1765 kg. The acceleration to 0-100 km/h is 4.6 s. The top speed is limited to the250 km/h.”

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 Photos and Driving Assistance Systems

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 photos were leaked today. And I am not surprised with the new design. It is still conservative E-Class and a bit stuck between the S-Class and the C-Class. However the interior is amazing.

Here is the list of the things the new and boring looking Mercedes-Benz E-Class can do it by itself. I copied pasted them from the Mercedes-Benz website, so you can read the all details of the new driving assistance systems.

DRIVE PILOT

This system represents Mercedes-Benz’s next step along the road to autonomous driving. As Distance Pilot DISTRONIC on motorways and country roads, it is not only able to keep the car the correct distance behind vehicles in front automatically, it can also follow them at a speed of up to 210 km/h for the first time. This can make life easier for the driver, who no longer needs to operate the brake or accelerator pedal during normal driving and also receives plenty of steering assistance from the Steering Pilot – even on moderate bends. Another unique feature at speeds up to 130 km/h is the fact that, like in a swarm, the system can continue to intervene actively by taking account of surrounding vehicles and parallel structures, even if the lines are unclear or non-existent, like at road works. The system therefore makes driving much easier, especially in traffic jams or heavy congestion. Another feature that helps to relieve the workload on the driver in such situations is the extended restart function, which allows automatic starting of the vehicle within 30 seconds following a stop initiated by the Distance Pilot DISTRONIC on motorways or similar roads.

Further new development designed to relieve stress: in combination with COMAND Online, the selectable Speed Limit Pilot subfunction can autonomously adjust the vehicle’s speed in response to camera-detected speed limits or speed limits logged in the navigation system, e.g. 50 km/h in built-up areas or 100 km/h on country roads. Additional DRIVE PILOT innovations include, for the first time, an Active Lane-change Assistant. This radar- and camera-based assistance system assists the driver when changing lanes on multi-lane roads and can steer the vehicle into the lane selected by the driver – when overtaking, for example. Once the driver has indicated to turn for at least two seconds, the Active Lane-change Assistant assists with steering into the adjacent lane if it detects that the lane is unoccupied.

Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function

Compared with the standard version, this system has extended speed thresholds with respect to vehicles and pedestrians. Furthermore, it can detect crossing traffic at junctions and, if the driver fails to respond, apply the brakes autonomously. For the first time, it can also detect hazardous situations at the tail end of traffic jams where there is no room to manoeuvre and initiate autonomous braking far sooner in such situations. Consequently, it is possible to completely avoid accidents at speeds up to 100 km/h or substantially reduce the severity of accidents at speeds above this level.

Evasive Steering Assist

This likewise new system ideally complements the pedestrian detection function of Active Brake Assist. When the driver deliberately or instinctively performs an evasive manoeuvre in a dangerous situation, this function can assist by adding precisely calculated steering torque to support the movement of the steering wheel. This helps the driver to avoid the pedestrian in a controlled manner while subsequently facilitating the straightening-up of the vehicle to allow the situation to be negotiated safely.

Advanced assistance systems

The intelligent assistance systems in the new Driver Assistance package also include proven systems that have been further developed in terms of their mode of operation and the sensors they use. Active Lane Keeping Assist can help stop the driver from unintentionally changing lane, this being done by corrective one-sided application of the brakes, including in the case of broken lines and risk of collision, e.g. with oncoming traffic or fast overtaking vehicles. Active Blind Spot Assist can now also warn of the risk of a lateral collision in typical urban traffic at low speeds and, as before, correctively intervene at the last moment to prevent a collision at speeds above 30 km/h. PRE-SAFE® PLUS can protect against collisions with traffic following behind and their effects on the occupants.

Remote Parking Pilot

For this first time, this system allows the vehicle to be moved into and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app, enabling the occupants to get into and out of the car easily, even if space is very tight.

Car-to-X communication

In 2013, Mercedes-Benz was the first manufacturer to introduce widespread car-to-car networking in the form of a retrofit solution. This is now to be followed by the logical next step as the world’s first fully integral Car-to-X solution goes into series production. The mobile phone-supported exchange of information with other vehicles further ahead on the road, for example, can effectively allow the driver to “see around corners” or “through obstacles” well in advance.

This means that the driver receives an earlier warning than previously in the event of imminent danger, such as a broken down vehicle at the edge of the road or also in the event of heavy rain or black ice on the road ahead. In this case the new E-Class simultaneously acts as a receiver and a transmitter, since warning messages are conveyed automatically by evaluating vehicle statuses or manually by the driver to the backend.

PRE-SAFE® impulse side

This system is part of the Driving Assistance package PLUS. If a lateral collision has been detected and is imminent, it moves the driver or front passenger away from the danger zone in a sideways direction by way of precaution. To do this, the system inflates an air chamber in the side bolster of the front seat backrest nearest the side of the imminent impact in a fraction of a second, thus increasing the distance between occupant and door and, at the same time, reducing the forces acting on the occupants.

PRE-SAFE® Sound

This system is based on a human reflex in the inner ear, called the stapedius reflex. PRE-SAFE® Sound emits a short interference signal through the vehicle’s sound system if the risk of a collision is detected. This signal can trigger the natural reflex and thus prepare the occupants’ ears for the expected sound of the accident.

High-resolution MULTIBEAM LED headlamps

Each with 84 individually controlled high-performance LEDs, automatically illuminate the road with a hitherto unsurpassed, precision-controlled distribution of exceptionally bright light – without dazzling other road users. That’s because this grid allows the light distribution of the left and right headlamps to be controlled separately and adapted to the changing situation on the road quickly and dynamically. All functions of the Intelligent Light System in low-beam and high-beam mode can furthermore be depicted purely digitally and without mechanical actuators for the first time, including, as a world first, a purely electronically implemented active light function.

Digital Vehicle Key

This drive authorisation system uses Near Field Communication technology and allows the driver’s smartphone to be used as a vehicle key.

Automatic lane change

When the driver activates the turn indicator for more than two seconds to change lanes, Active Lane Change Assist steers the new E-Class into the adjacent lane. The vehicle will only change lanes automatically if the sensors do not detect any vehicles in the relevant safety zone. It is inconsequential whether the car wants to change to the left lane for overtaking or wants to return to the right-hand lane. A long-range radar system and the stereo camera monitor the area in front of the vehicle, while multi-mode radar sensors permanently check the area to the rear and sides.

Both factor-in the speed of detected vehicles in the vicinity. The driver themselves need only monitor the lane change. For Germany, the Federal Motor Vehicle and Transport Authority has already issued provisional approval for Active Lane Change Assist. The application procedure for EU-wide approval has been started.

The criteria for the operation of Active Lane Change Assist are:

  • operation of the turn indicator for longer than two seconds
  • the unoccupied zone detection system allows a lane change within three seconds
  • Steering Pilot is activated
  • vehicle travelling on multi-lane, motorway-like roads, detected via the navigation module integrated into COMAND Online
  • separate adjacent lane, detected via stereo camera
  • speed between 80 and 180 km/h
  • The active lane change is aborted by the system when the sensor system detects an obstacle, no longer sees lane markings, the driver countersteers or Steering Pilot is switched off.

Mercedes E180 vs BMW 520i 1.6-lt

Mercedes E180 and BMW 520i with 1.6-lt engine. If you are thinking, I made a typo you are wrong. Mercedes E180 is powered by a 1.6-lt engine and BMW 520i is available with 1.6-lt engine but in Turkey. Most of the EU countries do no experience the same high level of custom duties and taxation of import cars. However, countries like Turkey impose high level of taxation on larger engines and this shrinks the automotive market.

So the best solution to save your market is to introduce 1.6-lt engines. Mercedes E180 features the 1.6-lt available on C-Class with 156 HP and 250 Nm of torque. Engine is coupled with a transmission 7G-Tronic that is also available to see at British Museum. Thanks to heavy weight of E 180 (1.6-tonne) this car needs 9.7 seconds to 100 km/h or try not to reach. On the other hand, E180 does not have a limited top speed of 250 km/h, because it runs out of breathe at 220 km/h. Despite my critism, I would definitely buy one. E-Class safety and technology packed with a smaller engine and this creates a room to avoid high taxation.

The story is the same with BMW 520i. 520i with 1.6-lt petrol is designed for Turkish market. The engine produces 180 HP and 250 Nm of torque and coupled with 8-speed automatic. And only needs 8.7 seconds to reach 100 km/h. However, Mercedes E180 offers the torque at lower ranges and it improves the feeling of acceleration. The 520i needs more rpm to reach its maximum torque. Top speed of BMW 520i is 226 km/h and interestingly BMW 520i is heavier than E180, 1690kg!

Literally, Mercedes E180 and BMW 520i with 1.6-lt are more or less the same cars. Mercedes has less horse and less weight, BMW has more fat and more horse. They both offer the highest technology of their brands and you will never ever suffer from the lack of performance. And the room for paying less tax is a big plus!

New Maserati Ghibli Photos are Here

Maserati Ghibli photos were released to internet a few hours ago. What is Maserati Ghibli? Ghibli will be the new competitor of Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, Audi A6. And Ghibli setting a new standard on the market even before revealed to public. Ghibli brings the Italian touch to this segment. It may not offer the same state-of-art technology like Germans but definitely fills the Italian feeling on the market.

Exterior design of Ghibli resembles with the Quattroporte but there is nothing wrong with that! Maserati Quattroporte is also one of the sexiest cars on the planet. Moreover, design of Ghibli represents the harmony of feminine curves with muscular look. Thus, Ghibli will have a unique identity.

Maserati Ghibli will be powered by two 3-lt petrol and a 3-lt diesel engines. Diesel may sound a contradiction for Maserati but in order to increase market share and become more competitive, diesel is a must! Engines are coupled with 8-speed automatic gearbox and Q4 four-wheel drive option will be available.

Mercedes New S-Class 2014 (W222) Photos are Here with Katy Perry

New Mercedes S-Klasse, sorry S-Class is revealed. New S-Class offers more technology, more safety, more power, more efficiency, more conservative look and more similarity to E-Class like in 1990s. Today, WorldCarFans.com revealed the spy photos of the new S-Class and it looks fantastic. However, if we didn’t have the E-Class on production!
Unfortunately, Mercedes went back on time and decided to design their cars based on 1990s philosophy. From C-Class to S-Class, they will look the same from the front. I was very happy when the S-Class (W220) was introduced in 1998 with a distinctive look, but we are back to beginning of 1990s with this new S-Class. My opinion, Mercedes realised that Audi is making a lot of money by similarly looking cars. But the reality is different!
Audi A8 does look like Audi A6, A6 looks like A4. Thus; Audi A8 looks like A4. And many people buy Audi A8 for this reason. Audi A8 is the only large luxury saloon, which does not pose on the road. No one realises how expensive the A8 is, or cannot understand difference between A6 and A8. By this way, you can go around everywhere without even been noticed by people. That’s what I like with Audi.
However, this does not work with Mercedes. When there is a star on a bonnet, the game is over! That’s a Mercedes.
This new S-Class is the über conservative model since 1990s. When you look around the S-Class, you understand the influence of Maybach, F700 concept car and conservative concern in every single detail. And this confused me a lot! One side of me says, new S-Class looks fantastic and excites me; on the other hand I really don’t want to see one! Designers did their job very well.
The interior is really well made as I can see from the photos but I need to see in real life to feel the quality of the materials. As I noticed, the new S-Class does not offer 8-zone climate control like in Rolls Royce. So, still S-Class has long way to catch up with Rolls Royce.
In my opinion, new S-Class will bring back the conservative consumers and confuse some the young generation consumers. New S-Class offers so many safety system, I really cannot write it now. Literally, S-Class has everything except ejection seat and emergency slide. Moreover, this new model definitely headed for the Bentley. The design philosophy for the interior is a very supporting statement. On the other hand, the tendency to offer wide range engine becomes a weakness for S-Class to compete with Bentley. Bentley is exclusive and people buy them because they can afford to run a huge petrol engine.
Whether you don’t like the S-Class like me or love it like many people. After this car is on market, it will be a serious competitor. I cannot say that Bentley will lose customers and Rolls Royce will a small scope earthquake. These brands are über exclusive and really hard to take their place. But I really appreciate the effort of Mercedes.
I still go for an Audi A8 W12, no one really knows the W12 and no one really understand how expensive it is. And A8 is the only visible car with stealth mode always on. If you don’t want to show your money, go for an A8.
Lastly, as you may noticed Mercedes did subconscious advertisement. Just look at the climate control screen and you will see the California Gurls / Katy Perry. I really don’t why Mercedes place this three year old but still exciting song. I think, Mercedes tried to give a message to our subconscious  New S-Class may look conservative but it is extremely young deep inside ;)
So, here is the Katy Perry, enjoy ;)

Mercedes with Illuminated Star: Really Necessary?

Mercedes with illuminated central grill star. Mercedes recently started to offer illuminated star with M, GL, C, CLS and E-Class models. Unfortunately, this feature is not available with A, B and GLK-Class models. Basically, if you are wealthy, you can blind your star.
Actually, I was planning to write something funny about this feature but I changed my mind. Because, I was trying to understand why Mercedes offers a feature, which is mainly aimed for posing. I am sure illuminated star is a part of the design element but customers will not perceive in the same way. Therefore, identify of the feature will not match with the image.
Does Mercedes need brand awareness? I really don’t think so, everyone on this planet knows Mercedes. There is always a Mercedes in everywhere on this planet, so the three-point star does not have any problem with brand awareness. So, why people should need to represent their Mercedes even at night? Actually, is it necessary to do? Even at night, we can understand a Mercedes very easily, it is not like Pagani only few people know the brand name.
I know after this post some people will say, there are brands doing this as well. But Mercedes is a cult, an icon. It is associated with wealth and success. Yes, other brands also mean this but no one can emphasise like Mercedes.
My opinion instead of getting this feature, go for Distronis Plus system. It will save your life and more functional then illuminated star.

Mercedes E63 AMG 4MATIC S-Model. Too Long

Mercedes E63 AMG, it is now facelifted! Don’t worry it doesn’t look that bad. Friendly advice, if you are going buy a Mercedes E-Class, please go for the AMG package to have a better exterior look.
New E63 AMG will be offered with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. Also, Mercedes offer a new product line for AMG, S-Model. Basically, it is more expensive and more powerful.
By the way, CLS 63 AMG is now offered with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and S-Model option :)
I really wonder what will happen when Mercedes introduces the new S-Class AMG with S-Model, S63 S-Model AMG 4MATIC. No comment!

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift Photos are Leaked!

Here is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift photos, it is not officially announced but thanks to GermanCarForum, they managed to find them. And according to responses from the forum and my personal view, I would like to celebrate the 2013 sales performance BMW 5-Series and Audi A6.

Facelifted Mercedes E-Class is unfortunately ugly. I am not fan of Mercedes but, they do have a very well designed cars like A-Class but Mercedes destroyed one of the best seller model, E-Class.

While making the lines softer, Mercedes designers created a look of melted E-Class :( And rear head light looks exactly same as in Mercedes GL.

However, if the rumours are true about the E-Class with 1.6-lt engine from Renault, Mercedes can compensate this ugly face with charming price, thanks to smaller engine!
