Moving from Birmingham to London // WeWork Stage

Getting ready for the pushback

In case you have never heard of pushback, it is the process of pushing an airplane backwards before the engines start running. This is performed by another vehicle on the ground. Once the pushback is completed, the tower confirms that the engines can be started for the aircraft to begin taxiing for the runway and preparing for take-off.

My life is currently at the same position, and I’m getting ready for the pushback to move to London.

Why London? To cut a long story short, for business and for WeWork. Yes, the billion-dollar co-working space one half Disneyland and the other half NASA.

You might be wondering why I am moving from Birmingham to London simply for an office space. Actually, I already moved to London a couple of years ago by travelling there three times a week from Birmingham to use WeWork. In case you are wondering how I can afford it, the answer is that I buy advance super off-peak tickets from Chiltern or Virgin Trains, allowing me to travel for just £11 return.

This method helped me gain traction for my freelance business of behavioural economics consultancy, focusing on marketing and social media applications. However, why WeWork?

The main reason is that it is like a second home for me. I have been using WeWork Spitalfields since April 2016, and they offer more than an office. It is a place where you can stay 24/7 and never worry about tea, coffee or cookies. Yes, these are really distinctive characteristics of WeWork for me. They are not unique selling points, we don’t really think about unique selling points.

Anyway, since starting to use WeWork, 90% of my clients began coming from the WeWork network, especially from the WeWork social network (both on the web and the app). WeWork’s social network is similar to LinkedIn and brings real business.

In addition, the office structure and community approach helped me meet with many people and has helped me gain more clients.

I can’t ignore my Lunch & Learn events. What is Lunch & Learn? WeWork lets you use their meeting rooms for lunchtime events, with them providing food and you providing knowledge. The event is promoted on their weekly email, website and app and event schedule. I have hosted 21 events at various WeWork offices, entitled ‘What is Behavioural Economics? With Social Media Cases’. These events helped me improve my knowledge and increase awareness of behavioural economics in the WeWork London offices. The events were hosted for free, with over 220 people in attendance. The final event I held was at WeWork Paddington with 21 people in attendance.

Community is an important factor as well. In this world you can’t meet a billion-dollar turnover company at the communal kitchen and start chatting and doing business. This is only possible at WeWork. Glass walls not only frame the offices differently, but they also make people live in them very differently.

Why? We perceive the environment based on how it is framed to us. Glass walls remove insulation from other people, making us more readily engage with other people in our office space. This contrasts with Regus, where the whole environment is designed to isolate you.

WeWork’s interior design nudges the brain (welcome to behavioural economics) and creates a new shortcut; if we can see each other at the office, why don’t we socialise? This model works very well at every WeWork office. Even though you may not wish to socialise with others, your brain nevertheless pushes to you to do it. This can result in getting your biggest client whilst waiting for your coffee.

You might be thinking that you have a private members club membership. This means that you wish to be exclusive and not easily approached. Yes, WeWork is similar to a private members club, but one that is open to everyone. Whether you like to dress up perfectly or come to the office with a chubby pug and wearing wear clothes from a second-hand shop, it’s the same. You don’t have to think in a certain way to be a member of this club.

They let you do whatever it is that you really love to do. And believe me, the WeWork team is very helpful. I’m someone who stays in the office into the night while waiting for late trains, and I’ve never had any issues. Imagine waiting for a train at a London Starbucks; it would be a very expensive affair!

I have also been tweeting this journey on my Twitter! Follow the #myWeWorkLife hashtag. It is a kind of travel journey between Birmingham and London.

I think that if I had never used the WeWork office I wouldn’t now be moving to London. The WeWork app literally made me move to London to get more of WeWork. I am even moving to a co-living space called The Collective, which follows the same concept but for living.

I am 100% sure that I will spend more time at WeWork offices than the co-living spaces. There are many WeWork offices that I haven’t been to yet and hosted a Lunch & Learn at.

This is why I mention it is a pushback for a brand-new story.

Apple Maps Vans in Birmingham, England

Apple Maps vans in Birmingham, England. You may have noticed Apple vans on the news. They are out scanning the roads and paths of the whole of the UK for Apple Maps to generate street view feature. Basically, when these Apple Maps vans finish their job, you will be able to go around most of the cities of the UK, the USA and the EU. It is the same concept as Google Street View.

In addition, these vans will improve the Apple Maps, which does have a very bad reputation in terms of accuracy. When Apple Maps was first revealed, searching for London will end up with you in Canada instead of in England!

Anyway, what I want to share today is that I spotted one of these vans in Birmingham city centre in England. It was a total surprise and very many other people noticed the vehicle as well. Actually, it is really hard to avoid the Mercedes-Benz Vito van with its Apple Maps stickers and laser scanners, cameras and other measurement sensors.

So it was something that was quite exciting for me.

And to celebrate the opening of the men section, GQ Magazine hold a welcoming event. McLaren MP4-12C with Plastic Ducks in Birmingham

McLaren MP4-12C with plastic ducks. I am not joking, someone really did it. The owner of this orange MP4-12C in Birmingham, UK has a great sense of humour and decided to place ducks from one side to other side of the McLaren’s dashboard.

Honestly I have no idea why the owner placed the ducks but there is something really obvious, it became viral. People were taking the photo of the car and the ducks like crazy.

This is the answer for the “how to become viral” question :)

The House of Borgezie | Stiletto Sculpture

The House of Borgezie, you probably heart this brand if you are interested on fashion. Especially high heels! A few months ago, The House of Borgezi revealed one of the most expensive pair of high heels made from platinum. This metal is quite new to fashion industry, because it is really hard to work with it to form a unique shape. Also, time and patience are the most important factors to manufacture a pair heels from platinum.
However, the result of using platinum for creating high heels is the exquisite design. Attention to details and one-thousand year of warranty. Literally, these heels will never ever let you down.
And recently, The House of Borgezie revealed a high-heels sculpture at Marco Pierre White Birmingham restaurant. This sculpture lets you to explore the details of the craftsmanship and design figure from a very close perspective.

olloclip Lens for iPhone | Product Review

olloclip lens solutions for iPhone. Sounds a bit interesting, you might be thinking iPhone camera has a lens so why I should buy another lens. Because, iPhone does not have a wide angle, fish eye and macro lens. And it is impossible to have them in a mobile camera. That’s why olloclip lenses take the action. Olloclip offers three types of lenses for the iPhone; wide angle, fish eye and macro. And they are engineered in a way that, you don’t have to carry then separate and avoid the risk of losing them.

Unfortunately, iPhone does not provide an adequate wide angle and it can be a problem some time. Especially, if you are taking the photos of cars or anything that is wide, you either need to walk away from the object or sacrifice the cropped out object. However, when you start using olloclip wide-angle lens, you don’t need to sacrifice any cropping or move further away from the object. You place the lens and take the photo, it is that simple. And the results are so good that, in many cases you will not use your digital camera to take photos.

Fish-eye is the second lens of the olloclip. Its function is very simple, it is fish eye. However, fish-eye always have some issues, regardless of what lens or camera you are using. You need to know where to use it. Otherwise the result will be really bad and you may blame this to lens or the camera. However, the fish-eye lens needs experience. You should see the picture and try to understand if fish-eye is suitable or not. And if it suitable, no one will ever understand that it is take with a fish-eye lens. The results from the olloclip fish-eye lens was fantastic and no one ever realised that it was taken with a fish-eye lens.

The last lens of the olloclip is the macro lens. Yes, iPhone has a macro function but it is limited. By screwing off the wide angle lens from the olloclip, you have the macro lens. And the results were amazing! Many people thought that, I used a DSLR to take those photos but I was only using an iPhone 5 and olloclip macro lens. The details on photos increased very dramatically and you will be shocked from the results.

Overall, the olloclip lens for iPhone is a perfect solution to improve the quality of the photos taken by the iPhone. Inside the package will have a dust case for the lens and it is very easy to carry with you. Moreover, the lens was engineering so precisely that, it is very easy to place to iPhone. I am very happy with the lens and took more than 400 photos with these lenses.

I took the photos in Birmingham, UK. The Cube, University of Birmingham, Bullring Shopping Centre and new Library of Birmingham.

Stella McCartney Fallabella Shoulder Bags | Selfridges

Stella McCartney Fallabella shoulder bags from Selfridges. Last week, during my visit to Selfridges Birmingham, I had chance to see the Stella McCartney’s 2013 bag collection. I admire Stella McCartney, it is one of the most environment friendly fashion brand, and does not sacrifice real leather for fashion. Despite the usage of faux leather in Stella McCartney collection, you really cannot understand the difference and won’t be bothered with this. Because, the faux leather is compensated by the unique design.
Fallabella shoulders bags do not flash their brands. The design simple and function, also elegant. This is another segment in fashion, many people want to own a premium brand but they don’t want to show it like statement to others. Thus, the Fababella collection definitely will satisfy this unique consumers market.
You can order the Stella McCartney Fallabella shoulder bags directly from the Selfridges online store. They improved their online store experience!

Christian Louboutin 2013 Collection in Selfridges Birmingham

Christian Louboutin 2013 collection in Selfridges. This was first time to take photos of the iconic fashion brand Christian Louboutin. Until now, I was taking photos of the cars that are quite big objects with lots of details. Sometimes it was taking half an hour to picture a car. Hopefully, high-heeled shoes do not have extreme interior detailing like a Rolls Royce. So, I assumed it won’t take so much to take photos.

However, there is another challenge with the shoes! Christian Louboutin 2013 collection is literally endless in Selfridges Birmingham! Louboutin offers many different types of shoes to many different customer ranges. As a result of this, you end up with an endless collection. From flats to sky-scrapper heels. If you are planning to buy a pair of Christian Louboutin, go for the highest one! It is like buying a new smart phone, no one wants to buy something slower!

If you are planning to buy a pair of Christian Louboutin. Selfridges will definitely satisfy your needs! And you will feel like you are in candy shop :) Literally, there is a pair of Louboutin for any taste. Honestly, I am really impressed with the creative work of the Louboution. It is not easy to create a very wide range of product every season. Cars companies have at least seven years to design a new car!
